Disillusion - The Liberation (2018-2019)

7/11/19

1st new song/video "The Great Unknown" (Cloud Cult? lol).

will check it out later of course.

7/4/19
Fuck Yes! September 6th.

ALEA was unbelievably good a couple of years ago, and the 13 year wait for another Disillusion album will finally end in a few months.

Bandcamp

1. In Waking Hours
2. Wintertide
3. The Great Unknown
4. A Shimmer In The Darkest Sea
5. The Liberation
6. Time To Let Go
7. The Mountain

While Disillusion's "Back To Times Of Splendor" was an instant classic of progressive melodic death upon its release in 2004, the group from Leipzig, Germany pushed the envelope even farther two years later with the rigorously innovative "Gloria". Yet it’s fair to say that the most glorious years for "one of the best kept secrets to come from the metal underground" (Blabbermouth) are yet to come.

In 2016, their first new recording in a decade, the single "Alea", came out to test the waters in the wake of successful concerts with a refurbished line-up. Disillusion suddenly found themselves graced with an incredibly loyal fan base that made the band give in to the urge of approaching their first full-length in ten years. In the course of a crowdfunding campaign, initiated with the hope of supporting the creation of that album, the dream of every niche artist became true; Its overwhelming success enabled main-man Andy Schmidt to invest almost two years, full-time, into writing and recording a new Disillusion record without having to take on a day job for sustenance. The fact that fan-financing is the foundation for this work cannot be valued highly enough.

"The Liberation" is the result of the Herculean creative task to which Andy Schmidt applied himself; spending countless hours of songwriting and recording. It comes 13 years after "Gloria" but stands with its genuinely enthusiastic, passionate and driven prog metal as the logical stylistic and lyrical successor to "Back To Times Of Splendor" – but with 15 years of additional life experience on the part of its creator. As an expression of clearance in the literal sense of its title, it is testament to human development. An interplay of fierce metal with moments of both pure euphoria and introspection, the songs take you on the proverbial roller coaster of emotions that you’ve missed – perhaps since Opeth's "Watershed."

Disillusion in 2019 resembles the storm you feel brewing over an epic such as 'Wintertide', the straight-in-your-face stunner 'The Great Unknown', or the unexpectedly catchy and hookline-laden 'Time To Let Go', which - quite naturally - turned out to be exactly what fans have been craving for so long.

"The Liberation" was mastered by Jens Bogren (In Flames, etc.) and is available as Digipak CD, gatefold 2LP, as well as 60-page 2CD book edition (hardcover, 18x18cm) with expanded artwork and audio commentary from Andy Schmidt.

Cloud Cult's LIGHT CHASERS: Interpreted Dance Performance

4/10/19
The whole thing is now on YouTube.

Being I'm at work, I haven't seen it yet, but hopefully tonight I'll get an hour to spend watching this thing.

12/4/18
This is happening at a school in North Carolina.

Interpreted in Dance and Movement.

Told through dance, movement, lights, and imagery, this beautiful and affirming piece finds joy in loss.  Produced with permission and in partnership with Cloud Cult.  Recommended for all ages.

Per the way that is written, I'm wondering if this is taking the Light Chasers album and using it as a soundtrack to the DANCE PERFORMANCE? which could be very cool itself.

But I also would wish/wonder if it was either

a) Cloud Cult themselves performing it while the interpreted dance performance happens
b) A group of musicians performing it while the interpreted dance performance happens

But even if neither of those situations are happening (and it's not written they are) this will still be cool to see what this group does with the album.

Light Chasers is my favorite Cloud Cult album and one of my favorite albums, especially in the last 20 years.

Given I don't foresee traveling to NC for this though, I will be looking forward to the film in January of course.

LIght Chasers from the WCU School of Stage & Screen

We're honored to have the entire Light Chasers album presented via dance, lights and imagery by Western Carolina University. Performances are this Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Cullowhee, NC. More info and tickets: https://www.wcu.edu/…/current-productions/light-chasers.aspx
This performance will also be available in film format in January.

Picking ALBUM OF THE YEAR w Fav Bands (Fates Warning v Cloud Cult, 2016)

In thinking more about Theories of Flight from Fates Warning and how great an album it is, and it is just that, a really great album. I recalled what happened in 2016 and how it ended up my #1 album.

Cloud Cult very early in the year had released The Seeker, an album that still to this day brings me to tears in multiple spots. I really love The Seeker as well. And it was my #1 album for a large portion of the year.

But I guess for me, and I'm sure other people who make the annual Albums of the Year lists and ranking them, and in deciding on the #1 album. Sometimes/some years, I make that decision based on how much I LOVE that band, have long history, and feel very much akin to loving them and their new album. Wanting to love their new album, etc. Feeling that they are MY BAND and their new album IS BETTER than others.

So while I am a very big fan of Cloud Cult and do love The Seeker maybe in some ways more than any other CC album, Fates Warning ended up #1 because they carry that extra FAVORITE BAND element, when making a tie-breaker, it is factored.

Also like in 2009 with Soundscape's Grave New World, an album I longed for, for so many years, and really loved and played an extensive amount of time. But Kevin Gilbert's estate released those compilations that because it is new music from Kevin Gilbert, ultimately won out.

I suppose looking back on it, Soundscape should have been #1 given after all, the KG stuff were just compilations, and a lot of the stuff I knew/had heard, mind you, in much lower quality. But I sort of made an exception that year.

But I think that is an extra factor in deciding my #1 album/ actual ALBUM OF THE YEAR; if the artist is an all-time favorite, I can get won over so much, that I go with my heart with them being my favorite. Even when maybe comparing 2 albums being pretty damn close. There is something about hearing a great new album from a long-time/all-time favorite that means even more to me and many others.

Or there is the idea and occasional option just to choose co-#1's I guess, which I could and maybe will do if faced with this situation again.

But Theories of Flight and Marillion maybe with Marbles and even FEAR, kind of have 1-uped both Rush and Yes in that they made records that are among their 5 or at least 10 best, 20 or or even 30 or more years into their career.

Which also thinking about Fates and ToF, I may try and make a Top 10-20 Fates Warning songs soon given I don't think I have and maybe it's a little overdue.

Cloud Cult - Best Time of My Life [1B] (2018)

https://cloudcult.com/home#

Nice new tune! ..some cool guitar textures it sounds like and the trademark CC strings, piano and dynamics.

Holiday tune I guess and it is in correlation with a show they are playing/headlining at First Avenue for 89.3 14th Birthday.

Tickets are for sale on that link above.

It also supports they have been working/writing/recording new stuff. The next proper Cloud Cult album could be not too far away?

Meaningful Songs: Cloud Cult - Where it Starts

Love this track. From its dynamics and layers, to the lyrics.

It was in-effect, the 1st song most early fans heard since it's the opening track off Who Killed Puck? Cloud Cult's proper full-length debut album from 1999.

AMR Podcast 11: Cloud Cult, The Family Crest, Better Call Saul

30 minutes. it was fine, although I plan to give more details about The Family Crest album and Kindo of course.

I also could have probably mentioned something about this epic The Dear Hunter riyl/ffo entry I've been working on for quite awhile, but hopefully will finally finish and publish within the next week or 2.

The Kevin reviews and the Midseason podcast should be good to do soon as well.

The Masters 2018 final round (not knowing Sunday's results) Symphonic Cloud Cult live The Family Crest - The War: Act I Better Call Saul Season 3 review Kindo - Happy However After Kevin Gilbert reviews?

Symphonic Cloud Cult @ Orchestra Hall 4/7/18

So this is a relatively quick review just to put this up before I got to bed while many of the details of tonight's Cloud Cult concert at Orchestra Hall with the Minnesota Orchestra is still in my fresh in my mind.

The below Set List isn't 100% accurate in both full track list, and order, but it's the best I can remember right now. It's probably 75%-80% accurate if not better, but I'm pretty sure I'm currently missing some stuff in which I may try and edit-in. I think they played 2 or 3 new tunes including at least 1 during the encore. Although I'm not sure if any of them were from the instrumental pieces they did for that film/soundtrack. Which oddly, there was really no mention of by Craig or anyone else. I.e. I wonder if many fans aren't even aware of it still.

edit: edited, but not 100% accurate still.

Okay, so the big deal was, Cloud Cult spent over a year preparing to play with the 30 or 40+ piece Minnesota Orchestra for this show; and then soon after it sold out in 6-hours last July, the 2nd show tomorrow night 4/8/18.

And the full orchestra played on maybe every song but 1 on the 2 main sets. The Encore they didn't play on anything other than maybe 1 song? I forget per the Encore was basically just Cloud Cult and with somewhat acoustic/stripped down arrangements.

I guess I can overall see having the Orchestra added a lot to many of the songs. "Love You All" for example almost became a totally new, more powerful track, and it was 1 of maybe 3 or 4 songs that brought me to tears. It just amplified the incredibly sad yet beautiful tone of that piece.

"There's So Much Energy in Us" while is a hugely epic, emotional piece, the orchestra added even more to.

I guess I can't deny though 1 or 2 points about the Orchestra. Arranging parts I'm sure can be tricky and take time. I think it was a little hit and miss with some of these tunes and parts. I noticed it was often more of the rhythm parts and harmonies rather than the main melodies that were used. Some times they were just amplifying Shannon Frid's violin parts. Like 12 violins or something.

And I'm sure that works and is intended, but I also can't help but wonder when those large ensembles can play those strong melodic sections, even as an echo or something, it can make for some amazing, breathtaking music. And I wonder if there were a few opportunities that it could have been done, but maybe was not?

"Running with the Wolves" they played, but it was during the Encore after the Orchestra had left the stage. I was telling some people I was sitting near during the intermission that I can totally hear and picture that track sounding wonderful with an expansive string section. Just Craig's guitar melody might be gorgeous.

But it didn't happen this time. Maybe another time?

A few other points:

This show before and afterwards had a bunch of things to see. An extended line to speak to loved ones who passed away along with news/video footage. The lines was 40 or more long before the show, so i passed, but I checked it out afterwards. I went in there and said a few words of thanks, but forgot to ask to speak to any of my lost relatives.

Site Lines: I was up in Balcony B, which when I bought my ticket back in July, I had no idea I was that far away from the stage and the fact part of the view was obstructed. Not horribly, but I couldn't see part of the Orchestra and Scott West's painting. I suppose part of it is, normally for a Cloud Cult show, only 10 people on stage, all would likely be view-able from that Balcony. But with the large Orchestra, there were so many people on the stage, the view from my seat couldn't include everyone per it didn't include the whole stage.

A woman named Grace Yukich was there with a Survey of some kind that people took about their demographics I guess. I went and talked to her after the show and put my email down. She's a Sociologist from Connecticut doing research on Cloud Cult's fan base, etc. What's she's doing sounds interesting and makes me curious about.

I will have to follow-up with her about her results. And my chatty self, I spoke with her for a bit and told I would love to hear about the fan base demographics from the other 50 bands I love like Cloud Cult, lol.

edit: her project is called "Courage in Unsettled Times: A Research Project"

and she teaches at Quinnipiac University in CT.

I wonder if someone could interview her and like Craig Minowa after her research is done. Might make a good topic of conversation and to hear about the various types of Cloud Cult fans.

Edit: Also a LIVE album hopefully will come out as many fans will definitely want to hear these arrangements of these Cloud Cult songs. 1 year or more worth of preparation? A Live album seems so fitting.

AMR Podcast #9: 1st Quarter Albums + Anticipated Update

Kind of a crammed update to the List and Anticipated to a point. I do like that I have done this, this early. Just need to commit to it for the other 3 quarters.

I didn't realize the month when talking about BTBAM and The Decemberists, but o well. I did correct it.

LDC new album is really good, so I would not be surprised to see it finish in my top 10. But that list is really vague in order, Come May, I likely will have something more accurate. Although right now, I can't stop listening to Dirt Poor Robins, which I can anticipate a separate video/podcast coming about them anyway.

Cloud Cult - The Great Alone [OST] (2017-2018)

Being officially released tomorrow, Thursday January 18th.

I definitely will be buying this, per my loyalty and love of Cloud Cult's music. It;s all instrumental, which honestly, may be really cool to hear.

I do recall Craig Minowa was interviewed by 1 or more people like a year or more ago talking about wanting to make all-instrumental music or albums, so maybe this is the 1st thing he and CC have done.

I suspect I'll want to check out the film after hearing this too (much like the new Nordic Giants, a film sadly I still have yet to see, and am unsure how to right now unfortunately).

AMR Podcast #8: Typhoon - Offerings and Chamber/Baroque Rock

Instead of making the entry 1st and then making a podcast, I decided to do the opposite previewing what may be in the Chamber/Baroque Rock/Pop/Folk entry.

Also initially sparked-by Offerings, just giving initial thoughts on this great new album from Typhoon.

I do think there is almost a yearning to do something soon about progtessive college rock in the 2000's and nostalgia. Maybe a Top 10 Albums or something, initially. Maybe make a podcast or video about that specifically.

I of course didn't mention every name, namely Sufjan Stevens who may be the most successful/popular/influential artist making Chamber Rock, but so be it. He'll be included in the actual entry.

I also failed to mentioned The River Empires as well..but there's many others of course.

Godspeed You Black Emperor - Luciferian Towers (2016-2017)

8/30/17 12:50PM
1st/opening track "Undoing A Luciferian Towers" is up.

l8tr/tomorrow for me.

7/13/17 6:06PM
Link

Release Date is September 22nd.

Lol at some of the political descriptions in this and the image below, but if the music is good, it won't matter. At least the vinyl is being pressed on recycled material, which fwiw, Cloud Cult almost may approve of.

I am not sure how much to expect though as their last record from 2015, 'Asunder Sweet And Other Distress, had more than enough drone/doom work for me to enjoy. The crescendos, when they work, make this band standout. And they were surreal live. But their approach at times focuses a little too much on slow, dissonant, chords that drag on more than I usually love. And I often suspect the hipsters who claim to be huge fans, probably latch on to them, also claim to love a lot of the boring Doom and Drone Metal, lol. Which to me, isn't really good Metal unless it is coming from Black Sabbath or a few other exceptions.

But this is their 1st album of new music I think, since they ended their hiatus about 7 years ago. Which might mean something (good or bad I guess).

4 songs, 44+ minutes.

Bent Knee: MPLS Show w/Air Lands @ The Entry 7/24/17 + General Thoughts

So, I delayed this review unintentionally, just caught up in things with work, home, and then trying to finish the 1977 Albums Calendar.

And as I posted in that entry, I ended up skipping Roger Waters, in-effect for this show in some ways (the wife doesn't like me attending too many shows in 1 week, which I can see her reasoning to a point).

But Bent Knee I finally got to see on Monday evening at the Entry along with 2 local openers, Oklahoma and Air Lands.

Both the openers I found were good, Air Lands especially. And maybe partly per having Sarah Perbix from Cloud Cult play with them.

I should be checking out their studio recordings soon, but from the live performance, I would describe Air Lands as sort of Psych/Singer Songwriter. Kind of like Elton John or Warren Zevon (or Randy Newman I suppose) meets like The Besnard Lakes or The Beach Boys (I saw The Flaming Lips and Bon Iver among their influences, which I can follow and have no issue with despite not caring for those artists music much).

And Air Lands has 2 albums out I guess. They are from MN, went to NY at 1 point, and now have come back?

Anyway, certainly a band to watch further as they have a show at The Icehouse next week even.

But Bent Knee, here's what I guess is the set list (taken from the 25th in Kansas?)

Hole
Time Deer
Holy Ghost
Being Human
Insides In
These Hands
Land Animal
Leak Water
Belly Side Up
The Well
Terror Bird
Counselor
Battle Creek
Boxes

But their performance was awesome. Incredible energy, pulling off the dynamics and nuances live. They do have 1 member who is at a laptop but using some kind of sampler or sequencer or something, which I'm suspecting is for a lot of the string parts, etc.

But their violinist rocks out really well. Guitars, vocal sections from Courtney Swain and the rest of the band. Ferocious drumming, rhythmic bass lines from Jessica.

If I had only 1 issue, I guess was the mix. At times they were so loud, the vocals sounded drowned out, although I actually stood in front so maybe where I was hearing them had something to do with that.

So, to go on about Bent Knee. Great people as I met bassist Jessica, Ben Levin whose their guitarist, their drummer Gavin after the show. And I briefly got to speak with Courtney Swain their lead singer as well. Even mentioned the J.P. Bouvet track she sang on, etc Told her about the Art and All That Jazz festival from a few years ago, Super Pilots/Mike Linden, etc. She mentioned when they were at Berklee, his band and hers were kind of rivals, which is an interesting anecdote.

But I have not posted extensively about Bent Knee in here. I included Say So, on my 2015-2016 end of year list of course, but beyond that and the new album Land Animal, not a ton.

I kind of want to LOVE them, and am starting to get closer to that point. Their music has a ton going on. It's very schizophrenic. Circus Rock of a kind. I told Jessica, they remind me of 2 bands among others. 1 being Kiss Kiss, the other uneXpect. They have a lot of crazy time changes, textures, moods, etc. But I think maybe what works best for me is kind of like some Tech/Death or Fjokra or something where most of their songs have sections I absolutely love and look forward to. Maybe the best example is on the title track to Land Animal, the absolutely gorgeous/melancholy vocal melody that Courtney has "Sending out a message when I worry too much"..and then later it is echoed on Violin and other strings.

The title track to Land Animal, as I told Jessica, is definitely 1 of the best songs I've heard this year. It's haunting.

So, I purchased Shiny Eyed Babies and Say So on CD and Land Animal on vinyl at the show. I don't think I had ever heard SEB until yesterday. And my of my, it totally got my jaw dropping! There's 3 or 4 songs, just 1 time through that floored me. "In God We Trust" maybe being the most. "Battle Creek" "I'm Still Here" "Sunshine" among the rest of the album.

So, my take on Bent Knee and all the hype among the prog scene, I kind of follow, maybe more than before.

Now, if they could only go on tour with someone I would love to see them with. The Dear Hunter is an obvious one, and I guess Chris Baum? played on TDH's Migrant, so Casey knows him and likely the band.

But if not them, The Mercury Tree? (or Brice Plays Drums, or Bubblemath locally. Kai from Bubblemath actually was at the show and ended up hosting the band at his house I guess, which was very cool of him to do so).

The Reign of Kindo, The Family Crest, Bend Sinister would be some other obvious names who are active. Of course Josh Benash or a Kiss Kiss/Vuvuzela reunion (or uneXpect).

or SikTh too. the crazy, circus prog stuff would probably do well with their crowd.

Between the Buried and Me or Native Construct even.

Bent Knee are heavy enough, the (avant-garde/prog) Metal crowd likely would dig them. And they did open for The Dillinger Escape Plan a few years ago. I even met a guy at the show who was talking up In Flames and I brought up my favorite Melodic Death Metal bands to him (Dark Tranquility and Soilwork namely).

But to end this chapter in my Bent Knee-week excursion, I now am starting to see them as 1 of those bands who I hope continues to succeed and make awesome music and play great shows. I guess we'll see. I still haven't even checked out their debut album nor an acoustic record they did a little while back.

Oh and I thought Monday was their 1st MN concert, but it wasn't.

they mentioned playing in Minnesota once before. June 16th, 2014 at the Hexagon bar. If only I had known about them then, lol. 2 days before the 1 and only time I saw Agalloch (RIP) in Minnesota.
 link

Also 1 more note about Sarah, I ended up seeing her at The Depot before the show. Had no clue she knew about this show nor Bent Knee, which as it turns out, she hadn't. She's not really a progrock person, but yet she is a great musician and plays with Cloud Cult which I told her, I consider prog of a kind. And I can see why she would would work playing with Air Lands now. I wonder, if it made sense and were possible, if she may would contribute to some of their new music. A multi-instrumentalist and singer like her really could add a lot potentially to an already cool band.

Anathema - Endless Ways

I finally got around to revisiting Anathema's new record The Optimist , as I hadn't given the whole thing a listening since I first got to hear it about 2 months ago.

I can say, I have a better sense about it now, and maybe its concept to a point.

But for me, especially right now, the 1st half worked very well, and the 2nd half I found a little more hit and miss.

But the biggest thing that I'm retaining right now from it is this track "Endless Ways" with Lee Douglas on lead vocals. Sohhh melancholy. It just hit me like a ton of bricks. I would rank this now as 1 of my 5 favorite Anathema songs, and kind of like 2016's track "You Never Were Alone" from Cloud Cult and "Happy Returns" from Steven Wilson.

I was fighting back the tears trying to listen to it. Different images and reasons for them. A bit like The Antlers 2009 album Hospice and the timing of discovering it not long before and then after when my grandfather passed away. My head is lingering with nostalgia for the recent past and my now old apartment.

I feel almost like someone or something died. And actually, my wife's Aunt did sadly just pass away, and I was at the funeral last Friday which was melancholy in a lot of ways like this song. But this song is capturing my sadness from my memories of the past 8.5 years. I'm not sure how else to describe it.

I guess leaving my independence in a lot of ways behind. Sort of closing a chapter in a book. It definitely carries that emotion. And given the timing of hearing it more profoundly now, I may always associate it with losing or leaving my independence behind and the memories I have of my life since 2009 and my bachelor-lifestyle back in my old apartment in Maplewood.

I suppose it and a lot of the rest of the album brings my frequent thoughts of mortality and aging too, and the story about someone living on the West Coast of North America, likely Northern California and a tragic event (a Wild Fire?) that impacts them. Their home burns in a fire and they have to drive away to an unknown destination?

I am not sure how much I will love The Optimist compared to their other recent records which are all 4-4.5 stars, but the criticism of it not comparing I only can follow to a small degree. It may just be more of a slow burner and a grower. At a minimum, Endless Ways is gorgeous and sad as all fuck, much like many of their songs are, which is one of the biggest reasons I love a lot of their music. And to add to the timing of this for me, may just be what makes it an all-time favorite of mine.

Cloud Cult - You Never Were Alone + Pain of Salvation

So I'm seeing Cloud Cult play the full The Seeker album tonight at Northrop Auditorium in Minneapolis, with I guess the entire film sync-ed to their performance.

Pretty excited for that, including finally getting to hear/see "You Never Were Alone" live. It'll probably bring me to balling tears, but so be it. This song does every time I hear it as does a lot of the rest of The Seeker.

1 thing though I probably meant-to, but never was able to pinpoint, is a similarity in 1 thing. The little piano section about midway through "You Never Were Alone," is awfully similar to a piano part in Pain of Salvation's song "The Perfect Element."

A very sad, emotional piano part, that totally works incredibly well on both songs. And oddly enough, it was just earlier this year I heard a similarity in a Pain of Salvation song "The Taming of the Beast" with Cloud Cult's song "Sleepwalker."

The 2 bands I'm sure are totally unaware of each other, but odd how I hear these little similarities that are almost eerie.

More to add maybe at a later time about this song, but I can say, I had another dream last night where I was hanging out with Kevin Gilbert and I suggested he cover a Styx song ("Babe"? maybe) among a list I gave him some how of songs. And he was kind of laughing at me and asking me "are you serious?"..why this relates to this song, is kind of related to the whole The Seeker concept about time/space and reality. People who were gone before, and people who will come in the future.

Deepak Chopra. If ever get a chance to talk to Craig Minowa, I hope I remember to ask him about Deepak and Metaphysics.

Radical Face - SunnMoonnEclippse [EP] (2016-2017)

Me Likey.

Kind of reminds me of Cloud Cult at times, with subtle/pretty piano and nice dynamics. Not a vast departure, but different enough I follow why Ben Cooper mentioned how this would be different.

Published on Feb 9, 2017
This 3 song EP was built to be a cycle. The music, lyric content and visuals are all meant to loop indefinitely.

The video was made by Gordon McBryde, and as a first for both of us, we made the visuals and the music side-by-side. A direct collaboration instead of two separate processes. So this EP really makes the most sense when you watch and listen at the same time.

Special thanks to Laura Bearl for building and animating all the text.

And if you'd like to watch this EP with the ability to turn the lyrics off and on, I have a dedicated website up for that: [link]

Pain of Salvation - In the Passing Light of Day (2016-2017)

1/4/17 9:50AM

The video for Reasons is finally not country-restricted.

I can say I've heard a version of the new album and am liking this, but not probably as much as many reviews have suggested.

But as I just posted on Social Media, I finally noted which Cloud Cult "Sleepwalker"  has some eerie similarities to 1 of the tracks on this album. Almost now to the point, I hear the Gang-vocal chorus in it every time I play that track from this new Pain of Salvation album.

Also another track mentions "cutting to the bone" which reminds me of the Oceansize track "Meredith" and that lyric "cut you to the bone"

New song "Reasons," which I enjoy the vocals. The guitars seem doomy/dissonant, but I guess work with the song and may grow on me. Pretty lame that the YouTube video is restricted right now, but there are ways around that of course.

No Minnesota of course, but I'm happy to see other fans get to see them (at and BEYOND the Cruise)

Apparently, VEVO.com doesn't allow embedding at this time which is lame.

Regardless, new track and video from the album. I'm luke warm about it. It's kind of slow/slow-tempo. But I do like the last couple of minutes.

edit: it got put back up on YouTube, and also it seems it's a remake of 1 of Ragnar's band old song.

Meaningless - Pain Of Salvation

11/10/16 9:55AM
Track list, and cover art? The post doesn't confirm the cover art, but it may be.

I react to the epics especially "On a Tuesday" being 10+ mins and the 15+ title track. It looks a bit like both classics, TPE and Remedy Lane in that sense.

Inspiration from Daniel's experience with flesh eating bacteria (per the link/text below from I/O music)

We'll see/hear soon enough.

Inside Out Music's Facebook

Swedish progressive rock/metal innovators Pain of Salvation have announced the worldwide release of their long-awaited new studio album ‘In the Passing Light of Day’ for Friday the 13th of January, 2017 via their longtime label partners InsideOutMusic.
Working together with acclaimed producer Daniel Bergstrand (In Flames, Meshuggah, Strapping Young Lad, etc.) at Dugout Studio in Sweden, the band have crafted an album that sees them returning to their much praised heavier sound, featuring the syncopated rhythms, glorious melodies, and intensely personal themes that Pain of Salvation fans have long loved about the band.
Inextricably linked to the near fatal illness that band-leader Daniel Gildenlöw spent much of the first half of 2014 recovering from, the album is an altogether darker and more impassioned journey. Taking the hospital bed as a narrative hub, the lyrical and musical themes touch on all the conflicting feelings that run through a person’s mind when presented with the prospect of death and the passing of life.
The album will be available as a special edition 2CD Mediabook (including expanded 48-pages booklet, several in-depth texts by conceptual author Daniel Gildenlöw, demo material & band commentary tracks), standard jewelcase CD, gatefold 180g 2LP vinyl plus album on CD as bonus & digital download.

Not a ton of details save for the cover and whatever Daniel is referring to in June. But per a lot of updates and that short window of time, the details should come soon. What is Daniel talking about? the obvious guess is a new video or maybe new website. Perhaps interactive, or something. Maybe some novelty item associated with this new album of theirs?

a tour? I guess we'll learn soon enough.

Good to get some good news amongst all the Prince stuff the past 24 hours. I certainly am interested in this new album, even if my passion for PoS hasn't been really high for almost 10 years.

I probably should/and will make a Random Artist Feature about them soon, perhaps sooner per this news.

There is some interesting news coming up in the next few days. I'm not the one to shower our fans with news about every little thing we do, since I don't... well, since I simply don't enjoy that social direction. So, in the last months we have simply worked on the new album, which is turning out absolutely awesome! The album title (which I know you have been waiting for and speculated about) is:
In the Passing Light of Day
However, we have also prepared another little surprise release for you all, scheduled for June. I can't wait to see how this will be received, but I have a feeling it will be very appreciated. 😀
Anyway, that about that for now, keep your eyes and ears open and you'll get more intel on the surprise release and the new album in the next coming days.
Wet kisses!
/Daniel
