The media market is huge, thus the need for a media review market.
This is our little contribution to that field.

AMR Podcast #8: Typhoon - Offerings and Chamber/Baroque Rock
Instead of making the entry 1st and then making a podcast, I decided to do the opposite previewing what may be in the Chamber/Baroque Rock/Pop/Folk entry.
Also initially sparked-by Offerings, just giving initial thoughts on this great new album from Typhoon.
I do think there is almost a yearning to do something soon about progtessive college rock in the 2000's and nostalgia. Maybe a Top 10 Albums or something, initially. Maybe make a podcast or video about that specifically.
I of course didn't mention every name, namely Sufjan Stevens who may be the most successful/popular/influential artist making Chamber Rock, but so be it. He'll be included in the actual entry.
I also failed to mentioned The River Empires as well..but there's many others of course.

MEW in Minnesota: 9 Years ago Tonight 10/05/2006
I thought I would just pass this along; what I posted on Facebook, realizing it is exactly 9 years to the day, that I 1st saw Mew. That is rather EERIE.
Then the headline gig they did on October 26th, 2006, I only caught the last couple of songs and the encore per it was also the same night Kaddisfly played at the old The Toybox venue in Minneapolis off Hiawatha. I saw K-Fly, and then scooted down to The Fine Line and caught the end of their show.
Anjd of course they have not returned to Minnesota since, until tonight, October 5th, 2006.
9 years ago tonight, I first saw Mew live. In Minneapolis supporting Kasabianat Fine Line Music Cafe. They returned to headline at The Fine Line 3-weeks later on October 26th, 2006. And they have not returned to Minnesota since, until tonight at Triple Rock Social Club, Which is exactly 9 years to the day of that 1st show I saw them.
Here's a clip from that 10/5/06 show.
I will likely/per time, write a review of tonight show. The Dodos open.
I already checked out a likely set list, and I can't say I will be disappointed, etc.
I also think though, Mew, and the album And the Glass Handed Kites just evokes this incredibly strong and sad sense of emotion and nostalgia for me for some reason. The last song "Louise Louisa" especially in the last 9 months, although I get this image of meeting my fiancee at KFAI in 2011 with it, before and right around that time.
But I also can't forget seeing The Science of Sleep, 1 of the 1st things I ever wrote about in this blog, with Mew, and an Anathallo show. But that film, and going down to Lagoon Theater 1 late afternoon around that time.
That along with sad nostalgia I get from the early and especially mid 2000's, Mew's music triggers.
I should probably elaborate at some point about this whole topic/idea..periods of time in my life, nostalgia, music, and feeling really sad and almost depressed about it..the longing to want to go back in time, to that time, etc. All the bands from that period of time I discovered and many of them are gone/retired/broken up or barely active now.
Hopefully more on that later..but for now, I do have a wonderful concert to look forward to.

Jared Micah & Hats -> Jared Micah - TBA (2013?)
https://www.facebook.com/jaredmicahandhats/posts/10151568486317739
New improvisational sets coming this summer. New record being recorded. Sorry for the wait. I had to find myself. Or something.
I'm not sure exactly what this means, but it probably means a new album will be released soon. 2013, or sometime in 2014.
Jared Micah & Hats are now known or the music will be released just under Jared Micah. The reason I'm excited to hear about this is it's been so long. They released a really nice debut LP T.C.H.T.O.B in 2007, that I stumbled upon in 2008.
Their music: very similar to Anathallo in a lot of ways, but the songwriting is just really good. And ever since 2008, I hoped more might come, but if I recall, Jared and/or other members moved from Tennessee to NYC. They put up some demos in 2011 on a bandcamp page that may be currently down or gone.
more to add perhaps later. Zeke Zumbach, whose someone I met at Nearfest in 2000, may or may not be involved with this. Zeke I know was Jared's drummer for a period of time.

Anathallo - Floating World VINYL?
http://floatingworldproject.wordpress.com/
The Floating World Project was started by two guys across two countries, with one shared passion. Floating World by Anathallo is one of the most exciting, unique, emotional and colorful releases of the last ten years. It was released in 2006 independently by the band on CD with incredibly unique packaging. Today, we want to release Floating World on vinyl, with just as much attention to detail and quality as the music itself. To do this, we need your help. We have started a fundraising campaign that will go towards the pressing of this wonderful album onto high quality wax, all packaged in high quality materials.
This is a project I just got wind about yesterday from an online friend of mine I know from a few different forums, whose as big a fan of Anathallo as I've ever come across.
Anathallo, sadly, are on hiatus and/or retired for the foresee-able future. However, their music still remains for those to enjoy and discover. This in-effect 1st proper full-length LP was buzzing among the blogosphere and message boards around when it was released in 2006. And it was most fans 1st introduction to the band. It has been regarded by many as their most enjoyed and accomplished work (although, hardly their only, as many fans enjoy more or less everything they released).
Their follow-up LP Canopy Glow in 2008, was released on Vinyl, but this never was.
Just from chatting with this friend of mine a few hours ago, some kind of campaign could be launched to help fund the production of this record on Vinyl. Gatefold, 180 gram 2xLP perhaps. Price may range, but approximately $30 for a standard copy.
I guess right now, this is just an announcement for what may be coming pretty soon. A possible target date for a release could be by November 2012.
I would suggest anyone whose never heard the band or this album, to go online to various sites (youtube, spotify, grooveshark) and check it out. Also if you are one who enjoys Vinyl record collecting, or if you enjoy similar artists such as Sufjan Stevens, The Dear Hunter, Cloud Cult, etc among others.

Awesome discovery, this band/orchestra of sorts from Texas, thanks to noticing a copy come in to KFAI yesterday. They have really finely arranged strings, horns, and even accordion.
They're like an orchestra with a number of different singers. And while I can't say their ability to be incredibly different than many of the chamber/baroque (Classical influenced) pop/rock I've been into the last 5 or more years, they do seem to know how to compose good songs well, which ultimately can be most important anyway.
In other words, if you enjoy the handful of chamber rock/pop stuff I do like Cloud Cult, Anathallo, The Dear Hunter, Sufjan Stevens, Emanuel & the Fear, Brooke Waggoner, Margot & the Nuclear So & So's, Revere, Jared Micah & Hats etc, this is an easy one to suggest.
I know I'm going to be spending a lot more time with this album of theirs from last year, Alhambra to get more familiar with it. But already, it may be my favorite record from 2011, that I didn't get to hear until this year. It may have finished pretty high in the Index in fact, perhaps even top 10.
