The media market is huge, thus the need for a media review market.
This is our little contribution to that field.

Klimt 1918 - Sentimentale Jugend (2016-2017)
12/6/16 12:02PM
My preorder arrived yesterday. Very nice package with a finely crafted hardbound book.
Nice white Tee also, though given it was shipped in packaging, I need to wash it 1st.
That is the good news.
The not so good news is, I've checked out a little over half of this album and am struggling with much of it.
The band have sort of gone the way of Tangled Thoughts of Leaving; apparently in love with noise/noise-rock/noise-guitars. And LAYERS.
This is like a Meshuggah album in some ways. VERY DENSE.
Or similar to The Red Paintings last album.
I'm worried that despite some nice melodic and harmonic moments, and ambient passages, etc..the dominant sound is the dense, almost Metalgazey style. And the vocals even are more for affect of another layer, rather than a lead melody/sound like most if not all their previous music.
This is almost like their tribute to My Bloody Valentine or something.
Or Sun O))), Earth, Boris in the wall of sound(noise).
But I suppose the artwork fits that mood.
I will give it some more time as my wallet and history with this band owes it that much, but I worry that this could go down as a band whose ambition and direction of their ambition (and producer they used) changed in a way that I struggle to even recognize what I loved about them in the past.
Now, perhaps this could be a 1-off, and they may follow it up in a few years with an album sonically at least, if not stylistically, that resembles Dopoguerra or any of their others. But then again, they may not and feel this is their muse now and in the future, much like I look at Tangled Thoughts of Leaving now.
Granted, there are cases of comebacks/returns like Umphrey's McGee, East of the Wall and just this past year, Long Distance Calling and Avenged Sevenfold, so who knows.
I should add, I likely will include/show my copy in a video soon (the 2016-2017 preview likely).
11/12/16 12:10PM
1st new track "Comandante" which is the 2nd track on "Sentimentale" the 1st disc.
Enjoying it. Gonna preorder now that some of my bills have cleared.
10/16/16 3:50PM
Finally the details, release date being December 2nd, track list, artwork and just with the title now being shortened to
Sentimentale Jugend.
I am naturally excited for this, and am awfully curious per the description, tracklist, etc.
I do wonder a bit given it is so much, how addictive it may get. But some double albums still demand the headphone in recent years like Sun and Moon from Timbre or The River Empires of course.
US Release? unlikely right away, but I very well may just have to import it per Prophecy or another source.
Preorders per Prophecy Records
The new Klimt 1918 album "Sentimentale Jugend" as 2CD hardcover book plus a Klimt 1918 shirt for a special price.
One has to be a decided connoisseur of alternative music culture to associate the title "Sentimentale Jugend" (sentimental youth) with the short-lived experimental noise act of the same name, founded by Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten) and his then significant other Christiane Flescherinow (also known as Christiane F. from the bestselling non-fiction book "We Children From Bahnhof Zoo") in the early 1980s. However, it is for a reason that Italian indie rock flagship Klimt 1918 names its latest double album after this footnote of pop history, namely a conscious hint at the underlying mood of the songs. "Sentimentale Jugend" captures West Berlin in its pulsating, nihilistic glory during the late 70s - just as David Bowie did with his Berlin Trilogy of the albums "Low", "Heroes" and "Lodger" - and processes notions from Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's award-winning movie "The Lives Of Others", be it the foggy winter atmosphere in East Berlin during the early 80s or the female protagonist's melancholy.
Eight years after the 'Soundtrack For The Cassette Generation' "Just In Case We'll Never Meet Again", Klimt 1918 stay true to their sound, alternating the energetic with the wistful by means of shoegaze, indie and new wave from the 80s and 90s, yet for the first time, the sonic spectrum gets expanded with the signature guitar effects and drum rhythms of 50s and 60s pop. Ultimately, "Sentimentale Jugend" harks back to such diverse artists as The Chameleons, iLikeTrains, Cocteau Twins, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Everly Brothers, Sigur Rós or Dead Can Dance and may be suitably tagged "dirty and noisy three beats dream pop".
"Sentimentale Jugend" consists of the separate albums "Sentimentale" (9 songs, 54 minutes) and "Jugend" (10 songs, 53 minutes), the former being the more "serene" chapter with its slow and partially long tracks, whereas the latter with its faster tunes is the more driving counterpart. Both albums are also available together with the exclusive bonus track "Lycans" as a high-quality book edition (hardcover, 18x18 cm, 48 pages).
Release date: 02.12.2016

Fantastic news! It's been so long since Just In Case We'll Never Meet Again...Double album? Feast or Famine perhaps, but I'm optimistic given it's been so long, the songs could have been refined and tweaked a lot, and there will be more of them.
Perhaps a concept album as well?..will bump with more info obviously.

Significant Albums: Klimt 1918 - Dopoguerra (2005)
Okay, this is it. First off, I want to say a few things.
Lists: Everyone seems to make them. I do make them, but in some ways as a necessarily evil. Truth be, I HATE making them, I also HATE trying to write reviews. Why is that? because I'm not a genius. I can't pull a rabbit out of my ass with some beyond common knowledge and vernacular. I am no National Merit Scholar anyway.
And frankly, loads of reviews, blurbs, even from the highly praised, I think are often nauseating to read.
And to be honest, lists in some ways as well. I guess it often does come down to subjective element of the content. But making long, year-end Album and Movie lists, while always fun to read, has become a little cliche among the masses, online and other sources.
So, I guess then the question is raised, how am I not any more cliche or repulsive by doing this? valid question, but I guess since I really have never given it a proper attempt, and I can, because I am not meaning to flood all sorts of places with it (maybe 1 or 2 forums I suppose, 1 being for the dreamtheaterforums.org anyway).
What will this list, or series of entries be like? kind of random in some ways. I may include 4 or 7 albums in 1, others only 1. They may be very short (actually a good chance that'll happen); but they also may be more extensive than I would mean to for an outside reader anyway.
How many? well, for the dtf, it's supposed to be 50. But, that is just not even close to enough, so the series may go a lot longer, like 100-300 or more depending on how I feel and of course time.
When will they be done? the 50 for that forum hopefully will be done in a few months if not less, but I may do this all year or more.
Isn't this just like the "AllMediaReviews Essentials" series, just with the albums, not artists that never got too far? yes and yes. And the fact I have a gf now, well, again, the time factor will dictate. But the 50 for the dtf will happen for sure. I just may have to make time away from her, much to her not being too happy with that. I guess, again, that bridge will be faced when I get there.
That being said, I am writing these in a Random Generated Order per a website, ordering 1-168+. No ranking or alphabetical or anything (for now).

What can I remember about this record? I was introduced to it per Spectre1982's 2005 albums list on the dredg fans forum. He had a massive list, and I checked out a bunch of new names from it, and caught on. This was 1 of the most addictive albums from that list. In 2006, I probably listened to this album 50 or 60 times. The energy was so infectious. I loved their style of U2 meets Heavy/Post rock, I suppose I might call it now. Some of the songs were very catchy. Namely "We Were Wed By the Sea." The pounding riff on that track I got attached to. So much so, I may even play it on KFAI tomorrow or another time.
But the whole record flows really well. I often found I had to play it beginning to end. The double bass in spots, dreamy element. I really would love to go back to the Winter and Spring of 2006 again..especially like January and February and put this on on my drive to work and while at work. Nostalgia, which is a word they used in the lyrics more than once I recall.
A romantic album. An uplifting album. An album that has the Italian element in small ways. Their singer does have an accent in his vocals, but it in some ways makes him sound more distinct.
I'm not surprised the dredg fans like this band. Some like their follow up more, Just In Case We Never Meet Again (Soundtrack for the Cassette Generation). I actually grew to love their previous albums more so. Even when they were heavier and used a bit of blackened Metal in their sound. 2014, could see their return as well thankfully, as they are posting on Facebook a lot over the last few months.
I also would say, bands like Alcest and Katatonia, while have had larger success, even with their differences, would find crossover for this band. Klimt 1918 aren't Metal anymore, but the "gaze" and melancholic element they share with those other 2, as well as a band like Anathema even.
"Snow of '85" is like the definition of nostalgia in song.

fuck, I can't really say anything on here is bad. I even love the 2nd CD that includes some very soothing remixes.
Klimt 1918, oh how I have missed you. And this album remains my go-to disc still some 7+ years after hearing it.

Klimt 1918 - Die Sentimentale Jugend (2011) (1.0)
their tumblr post
How Will Be Called the forthcoming Klimt's 1918 album?.
For months, I am haunted by "The Sentimental Jugend", or "Die Jugend Sentimental." This is a clear reference to the homonymous band formed in 1981 by Einstürzende Neubauten's Alexander Hacke and Christiane Vera aka Felscherinow Christiane F. author of the book "Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo". This is not a musical tribute to language infatuation But Rather (Sentimental Jungend played cacophonous noise). I'm in love with the cold atmospheres Described in the novel's Felscherinow. I long thought of Berlin, I thought the memories That tie me to this city. There is enough material to write a concept album.
For now, I Wrote These Words in huge letters on my Moleskine notebook: Sentimental Jugend. The images from the words flow. The notes with how the remembrance.
It will be a Solemn and cold album, like a winter walk along the icy Karl Marx Strasse.
As the new album will be titled Klimt 1918?

This is not a musical tribute or stylistic (the Sentimental Jugend sounded cacophonous noise rather noisy), but simply linguistic. I love the cold conditions described in the book of Felscherinow. I thought long and hard in Berlin, the memories that tie me to this city. There is enough material to write a concept album.

Back in 2006, I became pretty obsessed with this band's 2nd LP, 2005's Dopoguerra. Great energy, catchy, double-bass, etc. Kind of reminded me of dredg or like a heavier/hard-rock version of U2 at times. Although most people said they were a poor-man's Katatonia, which I couldn't agree with in much if in any way.
So, in 2008, they released Just in Case We'll Never Meet Again (Soundtrack for the Cassette Generation) which while it had some good music on it, didn't quite compare to Dopoguerra. Although I did go back to it after purchasing a copy, and enjoyed it a little more than I did initially. But I still feel it was a disappointment, mainly due to how great Dopoguerra was.
I even would say I like their 1st LP Undressed Momento more than Just In Case....
But that all being said, I and I'm sure many others are looking forward to hearing a new record from these guys.
The title Die Sentimentale Jugend aka "The Sentimental Jugend" doesn't give much. And that quote above from their tumblr blog is a google-translator translation from Italian to English.
When this is released, track list, artwork, etc, I imagine may be still a few months away. But bumps and/or 2nd/3rd entries will be put in here at that time.
