Kind of a crammed update to the List and Anticipated to a point. I do like that I have done this, this early. Just need to commit to it for the other 3 quarters.
I didn't realize the month when talking about BTBAM and The Decemberists, but o well. I did correct it.
LDC new album is really good, so I would not be surprised to see it finish in my top 10. But that list is really vague in order, Come May, I likely will have something more accurate. Although right now, I can't stop listening to Dirt Poor Robins, which I can anticipate a separate video/podcast coming about them anyway.
Long Distance Calling - Boundless
The Gloomcatcher - Blade in the Belfry [EP]
Typhoon - Offerings
Galactic Cowboys - Long Way Back to the Moon
Orphaned Land - Unsung Prophets and Dead Messiahs
In Vain - Currents
The Dear Hunter - All is as All Should Be [EP]
The Faceless - In Becoming a Ghost
Diablo Swing Orchestra - Pacifisticuffs
Greg Herriges / StellaRoma - Revel and Ritual
Esperanza Spalding - Exposure (+Undeveloped)
U2 - Songs of Experience
Cloud Cult - The Great Alone (OST, instrumental)
Nicholas Krygovich - In an Open Field
Field Music - Open Here
Umphrey's McGee - it's not us
+ a lot of anticipated albums and artists.
The media market is huge, thus the need for a media review market.
This is our little contribution to that field.

AMR Podcast #5: 2017-2018 Anticipation (1st Quarter?)
40 minutes, not surprisingly. Had to use a different site per the length (or size?) was too long/big. Which is weird per 1 of the previous podcasts was over 30 minutes, so I can't be sure whether this site tunetotube has a time or size restriction.
It's really mostly rehash of the Anticipation/Calendar entry that I continue to bump, only some elaboration on most of the names.
I recall in the past, I have made preview videos that were 2 or 3 parts, so go figure. But I figured, this is a only audio and a "podcast" of sorts, so 40 minutes isn't all that excessive.
I can't guarantee, but truly do mean to make more of these this year as many of the announcements come in throughout the year of what comes out.
And of course if I want to look at it by quarter, the 1st quarter ends January 31st, so I guess I'll see what has been added/updated from now til then to decide on making another 1 of these that soon.
Also 1/4-year like a Midyear list like I have done at the end of April the last few years.

IN VAIN TO RELEASE THEIR FOURTH ALBUM - CURRENTS // PRE-ORDER NOW Pre-order In Vain’s new album Currents and new merch at PREORDER
More than 10 years after their grand debut, In Vain returns with their fourth album Currents, on January 26th 2018.
The pioneers of progressive extreme metal return with a consummate and complete offering. Without question, Currents is the definite pinnacle of In Vain’s career so far. Unique, innovative and catchy compositions with longevity that merge elements from many different genres, whilst still maintaining a carefully balanced dynamic. In Vain retains a principal focus on solid songwriting with cleverness and an original edge. Top notch musicianship in all ranks and a sublime guest performance on drums by Baard Kolstad (Official). Add to that a stellar, organic production tweaked to perfection by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Dimmu Borgir, Katatonia, Devin Townsend, Kreator, etc) at Fascination Street Studios.
The album title, Currents, reflects on the colossal shifts and changes of our time. The present world is characterized by continental flows of people, traditions and cultures. Migration of people across continents and borders. Cultures merging. Dramatic shifts in lifestyle from one generation to the next. These are all currents - movements that distort old patterns, create tensions as well as new opportunities. These enduring shifts are some of the topics that In Vain addresses on Currents through a series of epic and monumental songs.
Currents also echoes In Vain’s musical landscape. Since its inception, the band has developed its own trademark sound through extensive exploration and seamless combination of musical genres. Currents goes to new extremes when it comes to further developing this approach. The music and lyrics of the album unite to form its own creative Current; A rich synthesis underlining the very idea of cultural and musical merging, and the album concept and artistic vision has been captured brilliantly by cover designer Costin Chioreanu (Paradise Lost, Enslaved, At The Gates, etc) and his stunning artwork.
The backdrop for the album has been a rigorous artistic and spiritual expedition across the world. Songwriter Johnar Håland comments: “Since the release of Ænigma we have been unknotting threads, followed traces, found disparities and drawn new parallels. In search of both lyrical and spiritual inspiration for Currents we embarked on a journey that took us across several continents. We have put the utmost of our hearts, souls and minds into Currents and we are sincerely grateful to everyone involved in this massive musical undertaking.” Singer Sindre Nedland adds: “Through all the experimentation, In Vain has always had a solid foundation in aggression and melody, and Currents sees these two extremes united in a way that feels unforced, and pretty damn authoritative at the same time. It has been a long and hard process, but the result is everything we hoped it would be: Catchy, intense and unusual.”
In Vain will release Currents in two editions:

In Vain - ÆNIGMA (2013)
4/11/13 9:28AM
Here's just some comments about this record. I really enjoy it, and would say it's one of the best comeback records, and probably the best Metal record of 2013 thus far. Great atmosphere and flow. The vocals are in classic In Vain form, with the blend of Blackened, Shrieks, Guttural and some wonderful clean vocals with great layered harmonies.
The riffs work, the transitions totally fit each song. The saxophone works when it's used, although I suppose I could have gone for even more of it.

Track List added below
I really love 2007's epic debut LP The Latter Rain , and then they came back after a long process, to release Mantra in 2010, which ultimately was a bit disappointing. That press release below has me intrigued enough. Hopefully this will be impress me more than Mantra, and this could be one of the best Metal records of the year.

IN VAIN TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM “ÆNIGMA” IN MARCH
In Vain is back and ready to release their 3rd attack of progressive extreme metal! “Ænigma” is their most extreme work to date, mixed and produced by the legendary Jens Bogren (Opeth, Soilwork, Borknagar ++). The album will be released March 11th in Europe, March 8th in Norway and March 15th in Germany and Austria. Check out In Vain's tour dates for 2013 below!
The album contains 8 songs of In Vain’s unique trademarked sound and as usual, In Vain has brought some guests along. “Ænigma” sees excellent appearances by Lazare and Cornelius from Solefald.
With “Ænigma” In Vain is back in the game with their strongest album by far. Additionally, on the album the production is taken to another level, with stellar production provided by Mr. Jens Bogren. Johnar Håland comments: “We had a solid impression of the releases coming out of the Fascination Street Studio, and believed Jens was the right guy to give the music the crystal clear and powerful sound that it demands. Jens did not cut any corners and delivered a production par excellente.”
The very talented designer Robert Høyem has designed the cover art on the album.
