AMR Podcast #5: 2017-2018 Anticipation (1st Quarter?)

40 minutes, not surprisingly. Had to use a different site per the length (or size?) was too long/big. Which is weird per 1 of the previous podcasts was over 30 minutes, so I can't be sure whether this site tunetotube has a time or size restriction.

It's really mostly rehash of the Anticipation/Calendar entry that I continue to bump, only some elaboration on most of the names.

I recall in the past, I have made preview videos that were 2 or 3 parts, so go figure. But I figured, this is a only audio and a "podcast" of sorts, so 40 minutes isn't all that excessive.

I can't guarantee, but truly do mean to make more of these this year as many of the announcements come in throughout the year of what comes out.

And of course if I want to look at it by quarter, the 1st quarter ends January 31st, so I guess I'll see what has been added/updated from now til then to decide on making another 1 of these that soon.

Also 1/4-year like a Midyear list like I have done at the end of April the last few years.

The Faceless - In Becoming a Ghost (2017-2018)

Release date is December 1st.

1st single and Preorders on Halloween.

Cautiously optimistic. Loved Akeldama their debut album.

Planetary Duality not so much

Autotheism?..After hearing this, I was of the feeling to forget about them.

But then they put up that amazing track "The Spiraling Void" in 2015, which ever since, renewed my interest.

December 1st..doesn't surprise me it comes out after my Halloween deadline per Halloween is only 12 days away, lol. But it just adds more to an already enticing new year/season for albums in 2017-2018.

Will bump when the preorder and new song comes on Halloween. Meanwhile, the track list I think is correct below, although the font doesn't allow it to be 100% crystal clear on some of the spellings ("breath"?)

edit: They released "Black Star" this past summer which I don't recall if I even saw anything about.

meh, "The Spiraling Void" the single they released 2015 was really good and addictive.

This?..eh, not sure. On the surface it almost sounds like a different band. And the drums sound off.

Maybe this will grow on me.

Not bad, especially the outro; although I still feel strongly, they should include keys again, which from memory, have not been all that present since their debut album Akeldama, which honestly, is the last and really only album I really love from them.

But I will have to check out their next record on the strength of this album. Their old/original? singer I guess is back.

Between the Buried and Me, The Faceless, The Contortionist and The Safety Fire are on all dates as far as I know.

I'm wondering if the uncertainty of Station 4's status had them book this show. And the fact BTBAM was with Coheed at First Ave last Winter, has made them *acceptable* for the hipsters now. The Varsity used to book prog and modern college-prog. But in the past few years, it's been a lot more infrequent. Maybe this show will be a sign of them getting more prog/prog related or Metal shows? I can't say I'd be upset if that happened.

As far as BTBAM and Future Sequence, I enjoy enough of it, and it may work in-full, better live. And The Faceless as well, their last album didn't go too far for me, but seeing them live again may change my feeling. I hope they at least play some of the Akeldama stuff.

The thing is, if it does come out this Summer, info better come rather soon. I'm just predicting here, if we don't have at least the title and more by mid July, it'll be a Fall release instead (Sept/Oct).

we'll see, 10 songs it sounds like. Here's the Summer Slaughter dates. Between the Buried and Me + The Faceless sounds nice, but @ the Sauna that is Station 4 (in the Summer especially), and with that many bands? save for a free ticket or it being held outdoors, I can't see myself going sadly.

Just a small update, but a good sign. I guess Michael Keene hurt his hand last Fall and it hurt the progress of this record. But it appears to be healed up and they're finally getting going on this album. Hopefully more specifics about the record will come soon, and the anticipation of their 3rd record will be more conscious to myself and others.

new interview with guitarist Michael Keene and new bassist Evan Brewer. Again, good info, but nothing concrete about a title, time frame really, or anything more than just a few vague comments about the new album. It is kind of cool to hear how Evan had a role in helping them out, long before joining the band.

They've posted some stuff on facebook here and there this year, but nothing definitive other than the fact their longtime vocalist Derek Rydquist left (on good terms I guess), and they replaced him with a guy named Geoff Ficco.

But this video is a bit of an update, and who knows exactly when it was all shot. It could have been a month ago. But the important information, other than the intrigue about this record, is, there is no info about when it's coming out still.
And the clock is ticking as it's only about 5 weeks until the ending of the window for late-in-the-year promotion. I..e in a little over 5 weeks, if nothing specific is announced, in all likelihood, it'll have to drop in 2012. And along with Painted In Exile announcing Spring 2012 as a projection for their new record, it's not exactly helping the quality and depth of Extreme Metal releases in 2011.

However, if Ne Obliviscaris does come out as it seems more likely now, that may help.

THE FACELESS is scheduled to headline the Sumerian showcase during the South By Southwest (SXSW) at Emo's Annex in Austin, Texas on March 16 with VEIL OF MAYA, ANIMALS AS LEADERS and UPON A BURNING BODY.

I could have sworn I read they entered the studio in January, but I also may be thinking of Decapitated or a band whose also on Summerian Records.

2008's Planetary Duality = huge disappointment. Get rid of those digitized/Cynic-wannabe vocals and do something cool/original, or at least go back to where things really worked on their debut record Akeldama.

The Faceless are among the most talented Tech/Death bands still around, they easily could do their best work on this 3rd record of theirs. With a March studio recording schedule, it's probably looking like a late Summer/Early Fall release.

I maybe overreacted a bit in my preview for this album, because I will admit, this new tune, at least on the surface, sounds MUCH better than I expected.

Chicago-based progressive metal hybrid BORN OF OSIRIS will release its third full-length album, "The Discovery", on March 22 via Sumerian Records. The CD was recorded at BOTA Studio in Lake In The Hills, Illinois and was mixed by Jason Suecof (ALL THAT REMAINS, TRIVIUM, DEVILDRIVER).

Commented guitarist Lee McKinney: "I should start by saying this new album is heavier than anything the band ever released. We have moved onto seven strings and it couldn't have complimented our sound any better. We brought back the 'BOO-bounce' on this one. It's definitely a really fun and upbeat album. Also, the addition of our new guitar player, Jason Richardson, has increased the amount of shred on this album. There are some really incredible guitar solos on this album from the both of us. It takes the band to a whole new level of musicality. This album contains an awesome mix of our most heavy, most technical, most atmospheric and most beautiful melodies ever."

BORN OF OSIRIS is preparing to co-headline the third annual "Atticus Metal" tour with DARKEST HOUR. AS BLOOD RUNS BLACK and THE HUMAN ABSTRACT round out the stellar bill. BORN OF OSIRIS's sophomore album, "A Higher Place", came out in 2009. The CD was recorded at Planet Z in in Hadley, Massachusetts with producer Chris "Zeuss" Harris, who has previously worked with HATEBREED, SHADOWS FALL, WHITECHAPEL and THE ACACIA STRAIN, among others.

BORN OF OSIRIS' debut album, "The New Reign", was produced by Michael Keene of THE FACELESS.

The band's sound is said to be "an epic mix of intricate and memorable melodies with challenging time signatures that still hold an infectious groove, all while maintaining sheer, tasteful brutality."

that's all well and good to learn. However, I found 2009's A Higher Place to be a huge disappointment. Production-wise, writing-wise. They didn't even use any of the great subtle synths that made A New Reign great.

So, this is sort of a make-or-break record for me. If it's as bad or worse than AHP, well, I guess they've likely found the shark-jump. But if it's better, obviously my interest may return.

I hope between them and among others, especially The Faceless, 2011 will see a return to some of the recent extreme metal bands quality that I got so into a few years ago.
