AMR Podcast #5: 2017-2018 Anticipation (1st Quarter?)

40 minutes, not surprisingly. Had to use a different site per the length (or size?) was too long/big. Which is weird per 1 of the previous podcasts was over 30 minutes, so I can't be sure whether this site tunetotube has a time or size restriction.

It's really mostly rehash of the Anticipation/Calendar entry that I continue to bump, only some elaboration on most of the names.

I recall in the past, I have made preview videos that were 2 or 3 parts, so go figure. But I figured, this is a only audio and a "podcast" of sorts, so 40 minutes isn't all that excessive.

I can't guarantee, but truly do mean to make more of these this year as many of the announcements come in throughout the year of what comes out.

And of course if I want to look at it by quarter, the 1st quarter ends January 31st, so I guess I'll see what has been added/updated from now til then to decide on making another 1 of these that soon.

Also 1/4-year like a Midyear list like I have done at the end of April the last few years.

Umphrey's McGee - Similar Skin (2014)

I knew they had a new record coming relatively soon, but hadn't seen any details. But this info was shared I would guess sometime in the last few weeks, and now the whole record is available to Preorder and Stream as it drops next Tuesday June 10th (the same day as some others like Fjokra and Anathema I recall).

I'm enjoying this after hearing the 1st few tracks, probably already more than their last LP Death By Stereo. Maybe their pattern of every-other album ala Bret Saberhagen, will prove Similar Skin to be more *similar* to Mantis and Anchor Drops, the 2 records I really enjoy from these guys.

edit:  this album is excellent! Quite heavy at times, perhaps heavier than anything else they've done actually. More proof that when this band takes their time in the studio, they generally create some interesting work worth going back to often.

My feeling about these guys, namely their live shows, has dropped considerably, but, it is cool to check out if they do a cover by a band I really dig. Although this is hardly the track I would have thought would make cool sense for them to cover.

Hot Dates and a New Album

We have a few big announcements we wanted to share with you today!

Our new album "Death By Stereo" is officially coming your way September 13th. Loads of details coming at you shortly including track listing, cover art & pre order info. We are pretty jazzed about this one - we think you will be too.

Bring this bad boy on! 2009's Mantis is outstanding, and a record I still put on some 2 1/2 years later. Live? that's another story, but I'm very much looking forward to another album from these guys. Let's see if they can even come close to matching Mantis.

And coming on September 13th as well, like Dream Theater, Arch/Matheos and St.Vincent. And the week before Opeth and possibly Steven Wilson.

Umphrey's McGee - MANTIS ..a few words..more to come

This album is awesome. The early leader for Album of the Year. They've definitely done a lot with arrangements and layering. Vocal harmonies, strings, epic, energetic, pieces with movements. A great return to form for these guys, and somewhat of an unexpected effort. We'll see how long this record stands up many months from now..how it compares in the '09 Album of the Year race. But it's certainly encouraging, as I plan to get a lot of mileage out of it in the coming weeks/months. Also very cool it was on the recent arrival shelf @ the St.Paul Cheapo for $8 on Sunday, lol. Maybe the fastest ever for a non-promo.

I also still need to hear the bonus tracks which are available as a d/l link with the disc (among other places of course).

More should be written about it eventually, but as a prelim rating.
