Owel - Paris (2018-2019)

Classic Case of I've been checking out, but still have yet to hear an entire album (or heard it to form a semi-accurate opinion).

However, I've listened to about 2/3 of this album once, and some of the 1st couple of tracks a few times to know I am pretty much won over.

Credit goes to a super Mew/The Dear Hunter and PCR fan like myself named Heather whose maybe known best for her work on the MewX podcast.

Edits will likely have to happen, but this album dropped last Friday March 29th and Heather along with others comparisons to MEW along with some others (Oceansize and Kindo) had me curious.

Lorenzo from altprogcore also posted about them on twitter and his blog I assume.

Lots of great strings, namely Violin.

I hear Jazzkamikaze, Paper Route, Team Me, Ours, The Receiving End of Sirens, Aereogramme, Miracles of Modern Science, Revere and a lot of others.

The vocals are probably the biggest challenge, but technically their singer is pretty good. And the vocal lines are well-written. He just has a bit of an "Emo" or Youthful side (but not really like Anthony Green thankfully for me).

That and I suppose partially due to originality. They do remind me of a lot of other artists, however I think their songwriting is good enough it may not matter.

And this is their 3rd album, so I may have to go back to their previous two LPs eventually.

but for now, another album and ARTIST to come out of nowhere on my radar, that is doing progressive college rock with strings and dreamy dynamic parts that I totally go for.

And they're from New Jersey, so maybe I'll have a chance to see them live at some point.

Also they covered "The Crowing" from Coheed and Cambria, which I will have to check out soon.

Miracles of Modern Science - Heroes (David Bowie, live)

Fantastic live cover. These guys often do some of the best covers (Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" for example), and this is no exception. Very much made me think of Bowie and nostalgia. The strings really do add a new flavor/flare to it.

New Vinyl Videos (August 2015)

Some new vinyl to show. The 2nd Screencap jpeg was not the image I meant and have now since edited, but it still shows up for some reason, Very silly expression on my face.

I have some more videos coming soon hopefully, and I suppose part of making videos now is more people have subscribed to my channel (thank you again).

Like many, I have a couple of hundred or more vinyl records I haven't shown on camera, which I will try to in due time. Per, this isn't all the vinyl I've picked up this summer (music collecting, and vinyl the last few years is an addictive habit of course).

I also look to share videos for the Retro Favorites Series soon (and making 50 videos eventually, seems like a tall task, but somehow I will try and do that over the next X-number of months or year or 2 time/interest permitting).

Album Anticipation List/Calendar (Summer 2015)

I'm sure there's many I'm missing and may find myself editing in, in here. And a video could be made about this upcoming period of new records, as I recall thinking when I made the preview video a few months back, it may make sense to forget about a preview for the "year" or "season" but just every few months, etc.

Caravan of Thieves

Not much time to go into detail, nor experience with them yet, but I noticed someone share this video from the Connecticut band, on Cloud Cult's Facebook page and really liked this. Sort of melodic, energetic, percussive acoustic folk/pop/jazz. Maybe a little like The Family Crest without as many chamber instruments, or Miracles of Modern Science.

Good stuff; I guess I'll have to elaborate in due time about them. Last album was in 2012, so assuming they are still active, a new record may not be too far away from Caravan of Thieves.

New 3rd LP coming is titled Kiss Kiss, a little ironically. CT ain't that far from where Josh Benash resides, the should play a show with either Josh, Vuvuzela, or if Kiss Kiss ever did another reunion, lol.

Regardless, I'm definitely checking their new record out. They also seem to like using the term "Freak" which either among jam band fans, or the Marillion refreence (...all the best Freaks are here), has me curious about Caravan of Thieves interest/use of it.

But hopefully their Pledgemusic campaign is a success and we'll get to hear their Kiss Kiss as well. Maybe they are big Roald Dahl fans like Josh?

Another cool cover, although the arrangement isn't as different as some of their other covers. But it's still a cool different kind of cover of the song, which I imagine has been done before by others. Mainly I think about just *acoustic* versions, etc. Maybe jazz or bluegrass kinds of covers with mandolin, upright bass, etc.

I wonder if it may be inevitable these guys release some sort of covers record. Maybe even for a benefit or something.

I watched (and liked) about half of it, although I'm at the mercy of the gf needing to do her homework (and can't have this playing in the background...headphones?).

A bit like all the new music this week I should be taking-in but am not: unfortunately has been usurped by being led to do an entirely different job at work (unaware/unanticipated). But I'm a Team Player, and need to do what needs to be done. So, those 5 or 8 or more records are going to have to wait, and even for now, the rest of this what sounds like, a pretty cool arrangement of the late 80's hit.

Miracles of Modern Science - Pretty Ballerina (The Left Banke cover)

I know this tune, and in fact, they are probably not the 1st band to cover it, that I've heard before. It's pretty faithful to the original, save for the little sped-up outro. Still, cool to check out from 1 of the better new bands I've discovered in 2012 thus far.

Now, given the new Menomena album is titled "Moms" I wonder if these guys are aware of this fact, and if they might want to go out on tour together. Maybe Miracles of Modern Science could play this live? All wishful thinking of course from myself in my closed little world and mind :p
