Bend Sinister - Animals (2014)..TEACHER + PREORDER/PLEDGEMUSIC

3/10/14 12:00PM

The Pledgemusic supporters have had it for a few days (and it was streaming in Canada I recall as early as last Thursday on Exclaim.ca)

But it is released tomorrow (and the Pledgemusic Campaign reached well over 100% on Friday). But finally a stream as far as I know, is available for everyone here:

On File Under: Music's Bandcamp

As for a review, I should put something in either this entry or a new entry in the next 24 hours. I just haven't had the time yet, but I have listened to it 3 times now and love pretty much all of it. It could be an Album of the Year certainly, and I suppose is now in-effect my top record for 2014 at this early stage.

Oh, and I may also include something extra with said review, but the key word is *may*.

Cool, trippy video. Also the Pledgemusic is up to 52%!  with 22 days left.

Damn, my interest in this album keeps going up. 2014 might be the biggest year of Bend Sinister's career.

Pledgemusic/Pre-Order

I just pledged/preordered the signed Vinyl. One thing I'm unclear about though in this write up is "Teacher." I don't recall them sharing it.

edit:
Stream "Teacher" per a Facebook poll (and APPLICATION)

and it Rocks!

Our new album "Animals" is dropping on March 11 but if you pre-order here we'll make sure you get it before anyone else!

We’re happy to announce that we’ve finished our new album called Animals! You’ve heard “Fancy Pants” and “Teacher” but we can’t wait for you to hear the rest of it.

We’re gearing up to release this thing and get back on the road to play for you. As part of this we’ve decided to do a very special pre-sale with Pledge Music to give you the chance to get the new album before the general public!

This is how it works – when you pre-order, or ‘pledge’, on any of the items to the right you’ll get a download of our album before the March 11th release date. You’ll gain access to the exclusive updates portion of this page where we’ll be posting a bunch of special footage and cool stuff as this album release is coming together. PLUS you’ll be able to hear some early previews and tracks which won’t be available anywhere else!

We’re also making a bunch of cool items available such as special signed items, lyric sheets, tie dye, a fur hat, swag, house concerts + more. Just take a look to the right -->

edit: this is some kind of trailer I guess.

"Fancy Pants" is there to stream. I'll try (but of course not guarantee) to add something later today as I am on break right now at work. I can't find a Track List yet, if it was posted somewhere.

Fancy Pants of course is 1 of the tracks I recall hearing them play live last March. Good, catchy tune with a twist from what I recall.

"Animals" being the title? I'm sure has no connection to the Pink Floyd record, but if this album is even HALF as good as that record, I will not be disappointed.

Not to forget, their last album Small Fame, was an excellent proggy power/bluesy pop album from 2012.

Too bad their upcoming tour isn't hitting the US or even Winnipeg, but o well, hopefully more dates will be added soon. March 11th however, this should be 1 to look fwd to (or earlier, when a stream or a preorder download is available).

By Alex HudsonWhen Bend Sinister released their album Small Fame in the summer of 2012, it had been almost four years since their prior LP. Fans won't have to wait nearly that long until the Vancouver prog-pop band's next album, since they've announced thatAnimals will drop on March 11 via File Under: Music.

The album was recorded in San Diego with producer Joe Marlett (Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age), and apparently the results find the band continuing to expand their sound and drawing on a range of genres. All of the members collaborated on lyrics, chord progressions and songwriting.

"With this album we tried to say 'yes' to everything," guitarist Joseph Blood said in a statement. "As much as possible we let go of any preconceptions over how we think we should sound as a band and just let the songs come out."

For a taste of what this sounds like, hear the jauntily bouncing, cheekily "Wonderwall"-quoting song "Fancy Pants" at the bottom of this page.

Also below, peruse the band's upcoming tour schedule. It includes a number of freshly announced Canadian dates that stretch into the spring.

Tour dates:

12/06 Vancouver, BC - Vogue Theatre
12/19 Vancouver, BC - Joe's Apartment Bar
01/25 Rossland, BC - The Flying Steamshovel (Blizzard Music Festival)
01/28 Golden, BC - The Rockwater Grill and Bar
01/29 Lethbridge, AB - The Slice
01/30 Fernie, BC - Northern Bar & Stage
01/31 Big White, BC - The Blarney Stone Irish Tavern
02/01 Kamloops, BC - The Dirty Jersey

03/21 Kingston, ON - Clark Hall Pub

Neverending White Lights News (Act IV/Pledgemusic, More.)

Pretty excited for this. 2011's Act III: Love Will Ruin (part 1, it was titled anyway), was still of the quality of the other Act records for the most part. I know Jimmy Gnecco though recorded a song for Act III: Love Will Ruin, but it didn't end up on that record in 2011, so I wonder if it'll be on this. Although the way Daniel mentions he WILL BE RECORDING it in February, might suggest it won't. But maybe a few of songs recorded will still be included, re-recorded, or released as bonus tracks.

However, memory serves me that Daniel unfortunately lost a lot, if not all of his computer and recording technology due to flooding in his home towards the end of 2011, so maybe the song Jimmy was on, and the other songs intended for part 2 of Act III are gone sadly. That would explain much of why an Act III part 2 may not come out. But, from memory, many of those songs, Daniel was excited to release, which seems like it would be a shame to not have them be heard by more people and be released.

All possible answers that may or may not come. But this new record should come, and should be well worth talking about and hearing, when my time allows (it may be coming sooner than I anticipated with some recent success at work for myself).

Given NWL is a project that includes many Canadian guest musicians, I've always wondered/wanted to come up with a top 5 or 10 wishlist for a NWL record for guests. Here's a few of them (bands, or just members of the bands), just among Canadian acts:

Bend Sinister
Bruce Peninsula
Chromeo
Malajube
The Besnard Lakes
Memoryhouse
People for Audio
The Most Serene Republic
The Darcys
Henry and the Nightcrawlers

But the below text is the latest newsletter Daniel Victor sent out earlier today. I'm sure I'll pass along info about Act IV and the Pledgemusic Campaign when it's posted.

Hey Friends,

I wanted to take this opportunity to personally address our mailing list and say thank you for being a part of everything we've done in the past. Moving forward, I have big plans and new directions.

I'm happy to announce I will be recording an ACT IV early next year with a release scheduled hopefully for spring/summer! However, I will not be making this album unless I have the support of our fans, friends, and well wishers. In February 2014, we will be launching a PLEDGE MUSIC CAMPAIGN to join all of our fans around the world together to make this project something more memorable and more hands on. I will be asking for people to pledge towards the making of the album in return for some amazing goodies, experiences, and opportunities! I'm also going to try to somehow make it possible for people to help vote and decide who you'd want to be on the next album. I'm also going to give away one spot to BE on the new album! It's going to be a lot of fun, and in the interest of the most important thing in the world: MAKING GREAT MUSIC. I ask that you will help spread the word when the time comes and work together with me to see this come to life. More on that later, and I thank you in advance for helping out.

In the meantime, you can catch me DJing on our internet radio station, www.lovelessradio.com. Every Friday 10PM - 2AM ET is our Alternative Dance Night streaming live. We play everything from Radiohead and The Cure to Bloc Party and U2. This radio station will be growing in the upcoming while with interviews, live music, and other cool additions. Stay tuned for that. And don't be afraid to tune in at anytime to hear great streaming songs 24/7.

from the latest newsletter

Hello Friends,
We are about to launch our first ever Pledge campaign to raise money for our next record. To learn more about how you can participate and download a preview of new OURS material, click HERE
-Jimmy

so it's Pledgemusic (and not Kickstarter). Which I think Pledgemusic may be European-based given Revere is using it. I'm not sure why Jimmy/Ours would use it then, but so be it. I am glad to see him MENTION it, not show it already launched (unlike EvaRusnik and many others who seemed to have just launched it, without passing the word along for awhile about it coming up, 1st).

Also in regards to Black Card Events:

The upcoming tour is titled "The Ballet the Boxer tour," so that may indicate the title of this upcoming record. Another Ours album is a HUGE deal to me and the dedicated fans of them and Jimmy Gnecco. I'm not sure about the logistics about this campaign, and based on it, when this record may get released. For some reason, I wonder if it's more likely in 2013 given this thing is just about to be launched now. But I'm sure given a chance to chat with Jimmy and the others next month at the 400 Bar, I'll get to learn more about it then if not sooner.

As far as the preview of "Devil" I have yet to hear it, although I recall hearing it live I think. And there's a few other new tunes live on Youtube including 1 song titled "Surrender."

What that means as far as the bevy of tunes Jimmy has played live that have yet to be recorded or released like "Living In a Video" or "Wished For None," etc, maybe those will come out on a solo record or maybe some will be on this, some will be on his next solo record. It'll be interesting to find out soon though.
