Extremely thrilled to announce that ORIGINATOR will be releasing March 5, 2013!!!

This is the official album cover for the lp.

I also want to announce the official tracklisting for the project:

2. Rumble
3. From the Nest
4. Ink Slinger
5. Squint
6. Perish
7. Welspryng

There's so much music ready to share with you.
We'll have new merch, vinyl, tours, release shows, and a slew of other news to share with you as the new year begins.

Stay tuned,
Brooke

10/17/12 1:00AM I guess this is the cover. It apparently was sent to her email list. I guess I'd like to see something from her about it elsewhere like Facebook/Twitter or her website, but until then, the word of the Email list will have to do. It's certainly odd, almost striking, but maybe the music will be that way as well. Even if the cover art doesn't stand out as much as I'd like, if the music is good, it will hold very little importance.

She made this announcement from her Facebook on Tuesday.

My new single INK SLINGER is available for worldwide download today via Rolling Stone!

This is a FREE download from my upcoming album "ORIGINATOR"!

Enjoy and come back to support more when the album releases early next year (2013)!

That's right folks, the album release is being delayed for a few months.

My apologies for the postponing, but keep checking back for updates -- coming very SOON!

Also, head over to Industry of One to check out the photo shoot we did at my Nashville home when Industry of One came down from Brooklyn to visit. My most recent interview is also included.

Final bit of news, I'm playing NPR's Mountain Stage again this year - show date is officially November 18, 2012! Come to the event and hear some new songs from the upcoming record, "ORIGINATOR".

xx

While I'm honestly a little sad the album is delayed a few months, I know it will come out all the more better when it does. And the new single linked above "Ink Slinger" is REALLY FUCKING GOOD.

I guess I've said this about 50 times about her and Timbre too, but it bares repeating. All the JOANNA NEWSOM and Regina Spektor (to a lesser extent) Hipster Lemmings need to check Brooke out and realize what what good songwriting combined with good musicianship from a adventurous yet accessible singer/songwriter ACTUALLY DOES SOUND LIKE.

2009's Go Easy Little Doves is an AMAZING RECORD, that STILL NOT EVEN CLOSE TO ENOUGH PEOPLE HAVE HEARD/APPRECIATED. And this next album could very well match or be better. Although "Ink Slinger" is a little different stylistically, but it still has the trademark layered, emotional and uplifting element that Brooke is known for.

I guess for now, that tune will have to tide me over, but come early next year when Originator drops, I'm going to be extremely excited, and probably still but not expect a larger amount of notice about it, than her previous work.

I should hope Jack White will get a copy and perhaps say some things about it. Of course that would be in part, due to the fact Brooke's been part of his touring band in 2012, and I believe she also played on his new album. And beyond the Joanna Newsom and Regina Spektor crowd, maybe then The White Stripes/Raconteurs/Dead Weather and his Solo Band fans will be exposed to her own music. And at least a percentage become fans.

We'll see, but for now I'm loving this new tune of hers.

The Book of Right On - How Many Ways Can You Say That You're Speaking (2012)

They just shared one of the songs from this they played last night "You'll Get Nothing and Like it" (and you can hear me utter "The World Needs Ditchdiggers too" hehe)

This is the title of their upcoming 2nd full-length record, that David, their singer mentioned last night at the show at The Cedar Cultural Center. I'd love to write an extensive review of the show right now, but I also have 50 blurbs to write for the Index. I will say, it was awesome to see them at a venue like The Cedar, and the new music that is expected to be included on this upcoming record of theirs sounds rather promising. Some instrumental songs, at least one being rather funky/groove-oriented. When this gets released? well, they have 1 more show scheduled for February 11th at Cause Spirits and Wine Bar, but more or less what David and maybe some of the others I was able to chat with said, they are going to focus on finishing this record after that point.

In other words, if all goes planned, the record could be done the 1st half of 2012, and come out sometime in the Summer or possibly earlier.

The Book of Right On are probably my favorite local band now (no disrespect to Between Two Skies, but I rarely see them, and their album may never come out ala Bubblemath) after seeing them last night.

one or two other opinions to add;

-I guess their name is taken from a Joanna Newsom song. Not a big deal to me, even though I'm not a fan of Joanna Newsom. I would be curious if Joanna Newsom has ever heard of them. Maybe she could play some harp with them sometime. Just as long as she keeps her voice off the mic.

-Some descriptions are calling them "punk" well, I guess having heard their music enough, including 2 shows and their previous/debut album All These Songs About Music, I'd say they have very-little to no punk rock in their sound. The bombastic nature I guess might fit, but they are so meticulous and busy with many layers, parts, etc punk really seems almost the last thing I hear in their music. Now "prog" on the other hand, without question is apparent. But it'll be interesting when this record comes out, what some of the other bloggers and media sources say. Prog, punk, jazz, funk or whatever. I really hope they could become a lot more visible with its release, especially if they have just 1 tune that 89.3 and Radio K is interested in playing.

Timbre - Little Flowers (2010)

I've been enjoying this album over the last few days from Tennessee-based musician Timbre Cierpke. It's been rather mesmerizing at times.

A few observations/highlights

2. The Wind May Be Beautiful "But pain can be beautiful my dear"? Very ironic lyric, but I follow it to a point.
4. Like Spinning Plates - This one is rather dreeeamy. There's a wonderful line"is floating down..a [insert word] river" It includes wonderful strings and chanting vocal harmonies.
5. Hope is a Blindfold, Hope is a Solace - soaring vocals, bassoon?
7. I Will Go Plant Little Flowers..I-will-go-plant-lihhtul-flowww-errrrrs" the repeated chorus is just gorgeous. The harmonies that include trumpet I really appreciate.
9. Dawn Awakes - This closing piece has this gradual, soaring melody that includes the wonderful trumpet and Timbre's simple yet lovely vocals "dawnnnn ahhhh wakes", that also includes some chanting harmonies.

The music on this album is incredibly soothing, gentle, and delicate. Much like "little flowers" may be described. It's rather dynamic. Very refined, tasteful, emotional, but not cheesy in any way. Timbre seems to have mastered her craft rather well, I think taking this album as an "album," rather than some individual compositions. In other words, it definitely works as the old cliché goes, greater than the sum of it's parts.

I'm not sure how addictive Little Flowers will be for me, but I suspect it would be hard for me to say there is much if anything that could have been different to make it better. For what it is, it's pretty much perfect.

I must add that I discovered Timbre a few months ago when she was on tour playing harp (and singing?) with fellow Tennessee musician Brooke Waggoner. I purchased her other lp Winter Comes to Wake You which I have played a couple of times when in the mood.

Her, and Brooke as well, are making music I wish more people knew about, instead of hipster darlings like Joanna Newsom. I really think there's no comparison. Their ability to sing, arrange, play and compose albums are so much more my taste, and I would think others, it's really unfair. But as long as Timbre and Brooke continue to make music, I suppose it shouldn't ultimately matter.

I also think it's neat to learn that Timbre's resume include the likes of groups I and many others enjoy like Anathallo and Umbrella Tree.
