2017 Rock Hall Noms: Yes, ELO, Jane's Addiction NO MONKEES!

Not enough time to do a proper write-up, but I did vote by submitting my email address.

You can with that or with a facebook login. Once per day, which may improve the flooding issue, but does not fix nor actually address more of the important/bigger issues as I posted last year here


if I find the time of course as always, which probably won't be all that soon, I would go for writing a more detailed take on who I want and who I think will get in.

And/or a YouTube video.

But as short as I can, I will just say I think this may be Yes's best shot as among the people who would vote for them, only really have ELO and possibly The Zombies to consider in the Psych/Prog area.

Will it happen? My initial inclination is NO. However, they received a lot of votes in the FAN VOTE last year if I recall. But as I wrote about last year, it really comes down to the 800+ voters a lot more than the 1 vote for the Fans.

Of course so many names still missing like The Moody Blues, Jethro Tull, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and especially THE MONKEES.

Just get on the fucking ballot ONCE please. Their new album with a handful of modern songwriters including Rivers Cuomo and Andy Partridge, and 50th Anniversary didn't seem to do enough this year.

Why the NOMINATING COMMITTEE needs to BE REVEALED and RE-ASSESSED . At least reveal the whole fucking list for once so fans like myself can at least understand ALL OF WHO CONTROLS WHO GETS ON THE BALLOT EVERY YEAR.

oh , the likes of the MC5, Bad Brains and Tupac..is just pitiful to see on there.
Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Steppenwolf, Janet Jackson, Chaka Khan, etc I likely won't vote for, but at least I can follow and if they got in I wouldn't be as annoyed.

Pearl Jam are just like Nirvana Jr. Overrated but the media and obsession with them more or less writes their ticket in. Although I'd say the same about Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Smashiing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters and many others.

I do think Journey will get in, as they have mass popularity, especially since The Sopranos finale using Don't Stop Believin' and then it going viral on iTunes to all the millennial kids.

Okay, I may or may not elaborate more about this record. But 1st, I guess I'll share what I posted yesterday on FB

I can say, I do enjoy a lot of Daft Punk 's new record Random Access Memories . Namely some of the drum work on "Giorgio by Moroder" and "Contact." And I wouldn't be surprised to see it finish somewhat high in my 2013 Albums Countdown. HOWEVER, (I'll elaborate more soon in the blog hopefully), I am skeptical it'll reach the levels of Janelle Monáe 's The ArchAndroid and especially Apes & Androids "Blood Moon."

I'll admit, I am slowly, but surely forming a somewhat accurate take on this album. And even just today, playing it again, I can say tracks like "Within" and "Instant Crush" I am being won over by.

Within actually is really sad and pretty. Melancholic in a lot of ways. The vocoder vocals on that one have grown on me, and I suppose overall on this album they are starting to.

I will not forget though, like the of Montreal/Kevin Barnes kankersore track on The Archandroid, the Panda Bear featured track "Doin' It Right" frankly, sucks, and that largely has to do with Panda Bear and Animal Collective being as abhorable as they are. 

But this is epic, and not without some cohesiveness and flow. Although the 2nd track "The Game of Love" while not bad, I don't think allows the start of the record to flow as well as it could.

"Touch" is a tune, I enjoy much of, but the melodramatic/cheese factor almost gets tiresome to a point. I could edit that song down and make it much more re-listenable/enjoyable.

"Fragments in Time" is nice, especially the fun synthy instrumental bridge/outro

And I will not deny "Get Lucky" is one of the best songs of 2013, including much of the vocoder stuff that comes later in the tune.

The repetitiveness of that song/song's vocal chorus and some other pieces, I guess I am growing to accept given the music on many of these tunes is worth hearing repeated times. Tapping your foot or hand to, or at least imagine just dancing to like "Lose Yourself to Dance."

Maybe more to add later, but I would say this record very easily will finish in my top 10 for 2013, even AS HIPSTER as it is. I do want to hear the Tron Legacy soundtrack now even more.

"Instant Crush" may not have received the comparisons elsewhere, but I can't help but hear the Tom Petty track "Won't Back Down" and as my girlfriend and friend John pointed out, very closely resembles the Alan Parsons Project hit "Eye in the Sky."

Also the vocoder use, while I guess is nothing new for Daft Punk, can't be ignored how the use recalls groups like The Apples in Stereo, Gotye and maybe more obvious, ELO.

Bleu - To Hell With You (2013)...and earlier?

I wishlisted 1 of Bleu's records on rym back in November, but I forget if I ever checked any of it out. I may have, or I'm getting mixed up with another layered/busy/ power-pop artist that I was suggested for my love of Jellyfish among others.

And I am now reminded that Bleu also was part of L.E.O. which included JF's Andy Sturmer, back in 2006.

He does seem or remind me a ton of Andy in that trailer video.

The comments are rather critical of the album on that blog posting, which it's odd how the songs on Youtube, at least the official videos, don't really seem overly catchy, but more singer/songwriter-like. Whereas these new tracks and that trailer do more so. I'm sort of getting a Timmy Sean vibe to some elements of them.

I want to not only check out this new record of Bleu's soon, but also find the best/catchiest tracks in his back catalog. And also all the other projects he's done, which includes producing and other bands, 1 named The Major Labels I guess.
