Evan Konrad (Bed of Stars) - Long Way Out [1B] (2019)

New song from Evan Konrad released under his own name. I'm not sure what it means for "Bed of Stars" but Evan Konrad signed with Lava Records recently.

Musically? this sounds more dense and almost electronic sounding, compared to the Bed of Stars stuff.

of course Daniel Victor I would say would be 1 of if not THEE one who sort of "discovered" him. And Evan appears on 2 songs on the last Neverending White Lights album from 2012.

Anyway, when more comes up, I'll have to add more or post something new about it. Good for Evan!

I'm again not going to go into great detail as this is another case of a record/band I slept on this past Season, but knew about, and didn't finally give the attention it probably deserved until now. And I still need to give it more time, of course, but I will only add the vague amounts of observations about it in this initial posting. Maybe an edit coming later?..I know how I habitually do that.

But this band from Lexington, KY and their new album Heretics is definitely a nice blend of modern progressive rock, some retro or classic rock, and post rock.

I did read a fair amount about them among progressive rock forums and rateyourmusic.com this past season, which is how I even knew and became curious about them. I recall 1 or 2 reviews saying there was a lot of good moments on this album, but it was a bit lengthly. Which I wouldn't disagree with, but I don't find it drags as much as I suspected it would.

The singer, sounds like a few different singers I enjoy, but like the singer from Grimus, he sounds probably most like Jonah from The Velvet Teen and maybe even more, Evan Konrad of Bed of Stars and whose sung with Neverending White Lights.

Favorites: probably the track "Elizabeth" stands out the most. Rather epic and a climax that really works well.

But I'll confess, it'll end up the hopefully soon to come Season Ending Countdown, but definitely higher than I would have put it a week ago. I feel bad though, like with iamthemorning's album, I slept on it all season, and thus I didn't get to experience it during this/its season of release, but so be it.. As I said aboiut Belighted, definitely better late than never.

Also given they are from Kentucky, I wonder if they ever do any touring, even in the Mid/Upper Midwest? because seeing them live might be a little more realistic than seeing iamthemorning sadly.

Bed of Stars - Tell Me if it's True [EP] (2014)

The title track to this EP is pretty sweet. Really that and the remix as well. Evan Konrad's project which Daniel Victor of Neverending White Lights has continued to support and help guide, offers up another good example of his promise as one of the better young songwriters and vocalists out there right now.

I saw something either on twitter or facebook I think that mentioned that 2015 Bed of Stars is looking to release their 1st full length. But this track will have to tide us fans over for now. Really dreamy memorable stuff.

Bed of Stars - I Fell in Love in the City [EP] (2013)

Pretty excited for this to finally come out. I remember hearing about it sometime in 2011, when Daniel Victor was talking about Evan for the new Neverending White Lights album.

7 tracks is a little longer than some EPs in fact too. I also think given how much time Evan (and Daniel) spent on this, it likely will be all the better.

June 11th. It's coming on a limited  number on vinyl too as well as cd and digital.

I'm not certain if that trailer at the bottom is fully up-to-date given it was posted awhile ago, but it's probably worth sharing still.

In 2010 I took 2 months to write, demo, and record a mini album called I Fell In Love In The City.

Exactly 3 years later, after many revisions, up's and downs, and a world of patience, it is my honour to release it to you, on June 11th 2013.

A week prior to that, on June 4th 2013 I invite you to join me and the crew as we will be hosting a special radio broadcast via lovelessradio.com.

Where we stream the album in it's entirety, and discuss I Fell In Love In The City, it's creation and writing process.

The word will continue to spread throughout this year, via tour, videos, and more music.

This is just the beginning, and I can't wait to show you what's coming next.

the end of that video says "Spring 2012." I know Evan mentioned it was to come out this February. I follow why he's being more vague, but hopefully it'll end up coming early in the Spring at least if not this (short) month of February.

Fresh off a #1 video at Much Music ("This Time" with Toronto rapper J Diggz) and an MMVA for Best Independent Video of the Year, Juno-nominated Daniel Victor - also known as Neverending White Lights- is back at it on November 8th with the release of a new album entitled 'Act III: Love Will Ruin' (Ocean Records/MapleMusic Recordings).

Having spent the last four years crafting the album and carefully choosing from a long list of songs, Victor will celebrate the release with two special shows at The Drake Hotel in Toronto on November 21st and 22nd.

After producing two critically acclaimed albums within the last seven years, Daniel Victor has earned the reputation of a master musician. An extremely talented multi-instrumentalist responsible for hits like MMVA-nominated "The Grace" featuring Dallas Green, part one of the new double-album once again sees Victor playing the role of musical director while featuring a host of guest singers. 'Act III' includes Victor's protégé rocker Bed Of Stars on "Falling Apart", indie-favorites Hot Hot Heat on latest single "Ghost Ship" and epic rockers Pilot Speed on "Starlight". Collaborations with pop darling Lights and alt-rockers The Midway State are among the notable tracks on Part 2, due out in Summer 2012. Each guest brings something different to the table, turning Victor's Sigur Ros and alt-rock influences into Neverending White Lights' special brand of melancholic/pop/rock.

Not one to dwell on the negative, Victor's recent personal and professional challenges including a snapped vocal chord have helped mold 'Act III: Love Will Ruin' into what you hear today. Composing, performing and producing the entire album, Victor states that the long selection process was to ensure "every song takes you somewhere, every song hits you, and every song makes you close your eyes and get chills". Judging from the brand new single "Ghost Ship" feat. Hot Hot Heat, which brings two indie artists from different ends of the spectrum together to make history, Victor has done just that.

Neverending White Lights \Act III: Love Will Ruin (Part 1)' will be available on iTunes on November 8th and hits retail November 15th.

Show Dates:

11/18 – Windsor, ON – The Room
11/21 – Toronto, ON – The Drake Hotel
11/22 – Toronto, ON – The Drake Hotel

So I guess the newest single "Ghost Ship" as that write-up says, is being played on a lot of radio stations, especially in Canada. It features Hot Hot Heat for what it's worth. I haven't heard it. A Youtube stream I guess was up for a little while, but then pulled. I would think Daniel will put it (and/or more of this record) to stream rather soon. Maybe on a Soundcloud page even.

This record drops next Tuesday, November 8th. But maybe the most interesting, yet not extremely surprising part about that write-up is the fact the release next week is only Part 1 and the next or 2nd Part will be coming next Summer.

I'd love to see one of those shows, but maybe someday they'll find their way across the pond and to my hometown.

Bed of Stars - Nothing Left to Lose [Single/MP3] (2011)

This is I guess the 1st single Bed of Stars aka Evan Konrad is releasing for the upcoming debut EP. Nice tune. I am not clear on where the download link may be on the Bed of Stars bandcamp. I thought I saw Evan or Daniel Victor post an Itunes link as well, but I don't see it at this time. Moot point anyway for me given I don't buy from Itunes.

Evan is seemingly one of the best young/up and coming singer/songwriters, and I say that not hearing a ton of music from him, but I trust receiving attention from Daniel Victor of Neverending White Lights, and the influence Jimmy Gnecco has had on him, I have reason to be curious.

I know he and Daniel have worked rather hard on both this music and the coming NWL record, and I am banking/believing it'll all pay off soon. This 1st track I can say already supports that. More people should give it a listen to find out.

Neverending White Lights - Act III: Love Will Ruin (2011) (1.0)

5/2/11 12:34AM

This interview lasts about 20 minutes, but it's definitely worth watching for anyone whose a fan or curious about Daniel Victor and NWL. The ending includes the video of the Act I track "The Grace." Really great, beautiful tune, and an interesting video.

The most significant thing in the interview itself is how Daniel mentions the target or hope is to release this new record in July.

We'll see. But he explains a lot about how its come to this point. More or less explaining what's happened over the last 4 years, the issues, stress, and some 80 or 90 songs were written and many thrown out. And he has 12 or so that are looking to be included on it.

Another interesting point are the differences he mentions, with only a handful..(half) the songs including guest singers. Also many of the songs are longer, 6 or 7 minute pieces.

This record, while not a number 1 hope or expectation, the more I hear about it, the more I am going in without a ton of expectations. Even just WHEN it does come out. When he or any artist says a month like "July" as was said only a few months ago with "March"..it could find it's way to being released in October or November even, for any number of reasons.

I do like how much effort and thought about the songs and record as a whole it seems it will have. None of it will seem mailed-in certainly. But the status of it, even with the new single "Falling Apart" is still at a wait-and-see. If there's not a lot of info about it by mid-June even, I am just going to be of the belief, it'll come out eventually, but not until specifics are given.

4/4/11 6:16PM

the new single is finally available to hear. Titled "Falling Apart"

go here "Much Music's First Spin" has it. It also was made available to purchase on Itunes in the US today.

NEW SONG PREVIEW! ALBUM ANNOUNCEMENT!
NEW SONG PREVIEW! ALBUM ANNOUNCEMENT!

The official release date of the new Neverending White Lights album, ACT III: Love Will Ruin has been moved to March 2011.

I had the misfortune of rupturing a vocal cord a couple months ago. The doctors told me I couldn't sing, perform or speak for some time. There was simply no way for me to release a new album this year. Unfortunately, before I was aware of the severity of my condition (I thought it was merely a cold) I had been performing and recording with it. I even tracked one of the final vocals with it, forcing the sounds out of me through the pain, not realizing I was only damaging myself worse. Much worse. The specialist keeps telling me that if it scars, I may never be able to sing again. It's a lot to think about, and I really want to take this fall to focus on getting better. I'm keeping a positive outlook on things.

In the meantime, I'm going to post a BRAND NEW SONG!! This is only available for preview ONE WEEK ONLY. This is the first new music NWL has released to the public in three years. At least you will get a sense of what I've been up to. I hope you enjoy it.
GO LISTEN HERE NOW: The Lonely War by Neverending White Lights

This NWL track features Evan Konrad of the band Bed of Stars. He is the most recent signing to my Ocean record label, and I've just finished producing his debut E.P due out next year. If you've followed me online, you know who he is. His immense talent is awe-inspiring, and his vocal range is astounding. A true gem. Please visit his Myspace page and lose yourself: http://www.bedofstars.bandcamp.com

I will announce the NWL website launch sometime later this fall. And also an Act III track list, guest information and some other new songs for preview.
Thank you for waiting patiently, and I hope this news finds you in good (better) health (than me).

Obviously this is good news to read about even with it being pushed back until March. That new song is nice, and Daniel's totally right about Evan Konrad from Bed of Stars. I checked out some of his videos a few months back when he came into a chat session while watching Daniel and another friend jam/improv live on video.

But hopefully no scarring occurred of course. The track list and guests should be interesting to see. I would not expect Jimmy Gnecco though, since I recall asking him about it last Spring when I saw him.

But with this added to the 2011 calendar..again, 2011 looks to be >> than 2010. We'll see.
