This is not technically a brand new tune from Imogen Heap, as it came out in a Video Game soundtrack previously.

But this is from what i can tell, the 1st time it was made available online from her official channel.

Nice tune of course. Sublime, dreamy, etc.

I know she has a new album's worth of songs that she intends to release, but how/when? maybe with this tune being shared, it could escalate that next album.

2014's Sparks is a really cool, experimental album that in some ways I enjoy more than her beloved Speak For Yourself (although I still prefer SFY).

That's fine, and Grande's a fan, etc. But she failed to even CITE that it was not even her song on the credits for that YouTube stream below.

I just roll my eyes for many reasons, maybe 1st and foremost, like the travesty of now people hearing-and-thinking "Africa" is the new hit single from WEEZER, like 80 or 90% of Ariana Grande's fans/people who hear this song will believe it was written and a song originally recorded and released by Ariana Grande (or whatever pop-music songwriting hack her label hires to write songs for her).

No, this is a motherfucking song written-by the goddess herself Imogen Heap.

I just...millennials and their lazy, privileged naive lives.

Perhaps some of them at least will be introduced to Immi and realize how much more creative and organic sounding her original version is, and maybe more beneficially all her other music can be.

I mean she even has Jeff Beck play on hers. Jeff of-the-famed-60's-blues-rockers, the YARDBIRDS plays on the original.

Ariana Grande's version contains "trap" "future bass" and "house" elements...yeah, that really is the kind of vibe I get from this tune of course. Electronically enhanced garbley-gook..mmkay.

But when one searches for this song on YouTube, Ariana Grande's COVER should not be the what comes up 1st. And look at how long its been there (a few months) and how many hits (4.5 million, which is more than Imogen Heap's single, uploaded 9 years ago).

Let's see in 5 or 10 years how those numbers compare. The millennial, what-have-you-done-for-me-lately flavor-of-the-month mentality has another perfect example of this and on YouTube right now.

Immi's original has stood the test of time some 13 years later, but I'd be surprised if 13 years from now in the year 2031, the Ariana Grande COVER will be in regular rotation.

Grande's vocals range from the note of F♯₃ to G_b5.^[8]

Critical reception[edit]

Heap responded positively to the cover/remix, calling it "a gift" and that she "love[d] that saucy verse she’s put in there and twisted it up at the end. What’s not to like?"

So this could be an extensively long review, per it's been a long time coming, wanting to see them live for many years, and The Reign of Kindo's tours not coming to the Upper Midwest nor Minnesota.

And they have been an earmarked, bucket-list band to see in concert for me pretty soon after I got into their music. Which that in and of itself may warrant some babbling-on about to an extent.

yeah I saw their name on the Kaddisfly forum a few days ago and like a lot of what I've heard so far. Sort of a mix of modern pop/rock with a jazz element..piano and what not. 

Still waiting on the chance to hear the whole record as my mp3 player is not being nice to me at home (it loaded 5 tracks and then shut down).

some clown in AP magazine gave it 1/5 stars tho..lol

listening to some of this today..I'm a little unsure how much replay value their style has..it feels so jazz-pop to me..and the cymbals are clipping which often kills music for me. I guess they remind me a bit of One Republic or Aviatic with some jazz elements, but for some reason the vocal melodies aren't as good.

ok..I will eat a bit of crow here and admit to REALLY digging these guys now. the drummer is incredible..the cymbal work is really technical and yet accurate as hell.

I'm pretty addicted to this album. I'd love to see them live now.

So that shows how far it goes back. I don't remember all the discussion on the Kaddisfly fans forum (Crimson Solitude), but it would be interesting to read about now However I don't think it's available unless it was from some kind of web archive.

So, 9 years, and finally last night I got to see them, opening for Jason Richardson with Luke Holland.

Just to not forget, there were 2 local openers, The Atlantis Theorem (who played 2nd),and this band named UMI who were REALLY good. All-instrumental, very jazzy with piano, and some acoustic and electric guitar. Very melodic, and a new band I guess but had Flash Drives for free of I forget how many EPs. But I gave them a little cash and gladly took 1 of them. I hope to include more soon if they are as great as they sounded last night.

Stolas was the other opener, who are a band from Las Vegas? And threw me off a bit. At 1st, they sounded very much in the vein of The Mars Volta or even as bombastic as Hella. But by the middle of their set, I was kind of getting a mid-late 2000's Post-Hardcore vibe. I did l like moments from them, including some group or at least multiple-member percussion.

The vocals at times were not easy to makeout, which makes me wonder if hearing some recordings of them could help.

Jason Richardson with Luke Holland, I did like moments from as well, although I concluded the music was very much in the Shred-Metal vein with hints of Djent. Similar to Animals as Leaders, which I did see 1 person with a Periphery t-shirt on, so that might make sense. The Guitar-worship community I'm not sure knew about this show too much, but like Tosin from Animals as Leaders, I would imagine Jason Richardson should appeal to the tastes of Steve Vai, Satriani, etc. But maybe the fans in this town didn't hear about this show?

Luke Holland though, as noted below, is a monster as he sat-in with Kindo just nailed Hold Out, so I can see why both Kindo was asked to come on this tour with him and Jason Richardson, and why Kindo might ask him to sit-in, as I guess he has drum-cam cover videos on YouTube of Kindo tunes.

So on to Kindo themself. The set list I posted below is not 100% complete sadly, as they played at least 2 or 3 tunes I either haven't listened to in quite awhile and didn't remember, or didn't recognize well enough to be certain. But I put a few tunes below as "unsure."

I know they played at least 2 maybe 3 tunes after City of Gods, and I think Feeling in the Night came after.

note, I can't find any set lists on setlist.fm from their current tour.

But the tunes I recognized I of course went apeshit for. Moments in Between gave me goosebumps, both the energy and the nostalgia. Very similar to my experience seeing Bend Sinister a few years ago for the 1st time, or even Mew a few weeks ago. Tears nearly hit me.

Great Blue Sea and Hero/Saint are 2 favorites as well.\

Hold Out was the 1st tune I ever loved, so that also was a highlight.

And 2 of the new tunes of course I have been addicted to this Spring/Summer especially, really worked well live. Especially with the energy they have. Their drummer Steve Pardin brings.

The only thing I think is worth mentioning other than I certainly would love to see an even longer set and some/any of my favorites like "Till We Make Out Ascent," "Out of Sight out of Mind," "Sing When No One's Around," "I Hate Music" among others, is Joey's LEAD VOCAL MICROPHONE and mix at The Amsterdam was probably not ideal.

Now mind you, when Kindo hit the stage, I went to the front (which most shows now I do not do), but per this was the 1st time seeing them live after so many years, I made an exception. Plus the show/crowd size last night, even with Kindo being the 4th band performing, per there was enough space among the crowd to not have to deal with fighting my way that far up, etc.

But Joey's lead vocals from where I was were at times at least audible, to other times barely present. I'm not sure if it was the fact the BASS MIX was really high, or just his mic was also not high enough.

The BASS MIX though was rather high for all the bands it seemed except maybe UMI, so that is why I wonder if it was the venue or the setup/board/levels, etc there last night.

But, minor issue overall.

Seeing them live finally was still an incredible thrill, and happily, getting to chat with Jeff their bassist a fair amount after the show as he was behind the Merch booth. Joey and Steve as well after wards. And I did get to talk to John Baab their lead guitarist, outside. Very cool guy as the rest of the band was.

Among the folks I met/saw, my friend Min Lee with Cities 97 was there, not surprisingly. But nice to catchup with him. Hopefully he will find a way to review their next album when it comes out, on the Cities 97 website like he did back in 2013 with Play With Fire. Which to include a detail or 2 in talking with Jeff.

1st off, there's a new track coming soon to the Patreon (September likely) that he thinks is the best (or Jeff said is his favorite, more than "About Love" which has become my favorite among all great new tunes per the Patreon).

And as far as a release, etc. Jeff just mentioned to me that the album may not actually be released officially until around February of 2018. But he added, that what will be on it, likely may not include some of the Patreon songs. And even the songs that may be on it that were part of the Patreon, may not all be the exact versions on the album, etc.

Now this is just what he told me, etc. Relatively vague, but at least as a fan, I'm not anticipating an official release/new album for a few months, which I totally understand, especially given the Patreon tunes, and so many of them already.

Also one other thing that irked me a bit as I came to learn chatting with Jeff and telling him how long it had been waiting to see Kindo, and what I believed is they had never come to Minnesota,

He mentioned coming like 8 years before, which would have been in 2009, at 1 of the theaters. Well so in searching, I failed to find a show/tour with them from 2009 or even 2010 or 2008 in Minnesota.

However, Google with the help of last.fm, found a show they played on October 21st, 2007 at The Varsity Theater with 3 other bands I don't know of, the headliner being a band called Daphne Loves Derby.

So it made sense that I wouldn't have known about or seen that show, since, like Janelle Monae a year or 2 later at The Varsity, and maybe even more significant, the 1 and only Minnesota Oceansize show in 2004 at The 7th Street Entry, I had never heard of The Reign of Kindo in October of 2007, so I can't really regret missing them. Along with the fact 10/21/2007 also happened to be the same exact night Between the Buried and Me headlined on the Colors tour (playing the entire album) at The Triple Rock.

Now had I known Kindo and a Concert jump were possible, I sure as hell would have tried to do both, but it may have been a bit of a tall task, and then being way in the back at The Triple Rock show, etc.

But anyway, all parallel universe realities and not mine.

I also did hear from Min Lee and 1 or 2 of the guys in the band, they are looking to tour the US again next Spring and Summer. Spring 2018 likely won't happen in MN, but more likely Summer of 2018.

Maybe with The Dear Hunter or Headlining or even another band (one I love or may not know yet, I could rattle off a handful of them if I wanted to. But maybe that's for another entry, lol..both REALISTIC and unlikely's like Vennart or say Pepe Deluxe or 22 of course...pipe dreams of course).

Oh and a final note, like Bend Sinister, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Agalloch and some others moderate to big..Kindo and Bend Sinister being very big deals..I look to Imogen Heap I guess as the primary Bucket List artist I have yet to see that I haven't, from at least somewhat of a realistic touring performer, and in the US namely.

A BUCKET LIST I should post/post again/update maybe soon. People like Fjokra, Vennart, Pepe Deluxe, Subterranean Masquerade, Small Leaks Sink Ships...Fish/Andre Matos/John Arch (or Arch Matheos), 22, Major Parkinson, etc. But Heap is the earmarker 1 since like Kindo, I got into her in the previous decade and at least 1 time, she toured the States a decent amount. Now this decade she has not unfortunately per her lack of releases and I recall her having children, but I hope she can and will eventually again and I can see her like I just finally did with The Reign of Kindo.

And I can remove thankfully Agalloch (2015), Godpseed You Black Emperor and SikTh (2016), and hopefully in a couple of months The Reign of Kindo.

Vuvuzela/Kiss Kiss (but maybe not Josh Benash), Fish, Andre Matos and The River Empires (but not necessarily Jessy Ribordy and possibly other projects of his) all seem pretty unlikely per they seem somewhat retired.

Which leaves among some of those, people like Imogen Heap and maybe John Arch/Arch Matheos being the longest wait.

I suppose I am missing some others like U2 or even Paul McCartney. But that has a lot to do with cost and crowd-size, although I felt the same about Springsteen many years ago, and then was lucky enough to get tickets from my Aunt who ended up with extra tickets that were better than the original ones she got.

Not that I can claim to be a HUGE fan or anything, but I do enjoy some of their music, and the big thing about this is they have flown over our town on an extensive number of tours. Their last show here I thought I saw was in the year 2000.

Why? probably MONEY i.e. Maiden's people wanted more than the promoters were willing to pay, etc.

Which sucks, but who knows how many other reasons (conflicts in venues, routing, pkg tours, etc).

I may try and go, but I am happy for those who love them and have never been able to travel to see them.

It is the Book of Souls tour, which I checked out and enjoyed moments of (I felt it was quite long and repetitve at times, but I also just take to much of Maiden's music in that way, thus don't expect tons different kinds of sound, or even songs).

Also Ghost opens.

To add to this, along with the likes of Agalloch (RIP) and Godspeed You Black Emperor, at least some of the artists who seem to fly over my hometown for many years/tours (Porcupine Tree as well, but then Steven Wilson came back twice on his solo tour at least), it holds hope for some other artists like The Reign of Kindo and Imogen Heap for me to finally get to see, without having to spend a bunch of cash to travel for. Although Marillion, I guess I may always assume they will never come here. 

But then again..never say never..

Full Album Stream

Like Kimbra, the mecca of all exclusive album streams and music opinions, npr.org has the 1st full stream of it. But then again, the campaign backers and deluxe version preorders I imagine have had it for a few weeks.

My take: I am enjoying a lot of it. The world/ethnic influence works pretty well and is a nice progressive/change from Ellipse and even the Speak For Yourself. But there's a lot of classic Heap stuff on here as well with electronics, conversational lyrics, vocal layering and a lot more.

I suppose my favorites initially: Lifeline, The Listening Chair, Neglected Space, The Beast, Entanglement, and Telemiscommunications.

A good chance I will get more into this than Ellipse, but I suppose part of that is my expectation level for that album this were pretty different.

Nice but short. Sounds more like an interlude. Rather ethnic sounding which is not surprising given how this album was made.

This (below) is supposedly 1-of the tracklists, per the Deluxe Boxed Set, which I will admit to not ordering. And unfortunately, I read was pushed back a bit, until April or May. But the release date was set to March 3rd a while ago. I have not seen many official sites mentioning, just the standard version. Promos, reviews, etc. Why I wonder if the March 3rd street date is still accurate. But if it is, I'll be looking to check this record out on Monday or at least in the next week or two.

It's turned out to be a monster of an album and even though I finished it two weeks ago, it still hasn't dawned on me. A bit like your last day at school!

For all the other bits, like making of documentaries, photos, music videos, commentaries etc, I realised pretty early on (about 2 years ago) that it won't fit onto your average CD, so I've been cooking up a Deluxe box set!

I may have a glass of champagne when I get mine as It pretty much represents my musical life since March 2011 with all the projects I've been involved in, connecting to a song.

All these wonderful details aside, this DELUXE BOXED SET is well, rather DELUXE being 10 discs, a DVD-Doc, and Vinyl. The price on the site shows a cool $299.99. So, yeah, I'd love a copy, but I also would love to use the $260+ extra to use on a plane ticket to Arizona or my savings account. There's only a limited number of the Boxed Sets anyway, so who knows if they are already sold out.

But at least we do know the actual Title being SPARKS (not Spark), and the release date being March 3rd of 2014.

just a follow up to  this Entry "Imogen Heap: 2012 Recap

This is just information she's posted at scattered points throughout the last 3 years. But taking this info to be somewhat if not rather accurate. this upcoming LP will be coming out in November. The title "Spark" is a *POSSIBLE* title as that twitter post linked on Wikipedia does not really sound certain at all (and it was from just a few months ago, in July).

But assuming the November release happens and that track list is close if not fully accurate (and the order for that matter), more of the details shouldn't be far away.

Spark is the tentative title^[1] of the upcoming fourth studio album by English recording artist Imogen Heap. The album will be released on Megaphonic Records in November 2013 in two packages: standard edition and deluxe album box set. The standard edition will consist of 14 tracks and will include all of Heap's singles released between 2011 and 2013.

Spark is a concept album. Each song that is related to a certain project has been released every three months. On 14 March 2011, Heap started work on a new record as fans sent in nearly 900 "sound seeds", or samples of everyday sounds such as a "dishwasher door", a "bicycle" or a "burning match". Heap says the concept for this album will be to record one track over a two-week period every three months. Each song and video will be released immediately.

The first song, initially entitled "#heapsong1" and later retitled "Lifeline", premiered worldwide on 28 March 2011 via Ustream^[2] along with a live remix by Tim Exile. "Lifeline" was released on 30 March 2011 as a digital download from Imogen's website and via iTunes, Amazon and other digital retailers. Released alongside this was a 12-page 3DiCD package (a 3D virtual CD) including crowd sourced (and paid for) images, the instrumental version of the song, the "seeds and solos only" version and "heap speaks seeds and solos" - an-18-minute commentary by Heap on how the sounds and solos were used in "Lifeline". The song is a tribute to the victims of the2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. The second song, "Propeller Seeds", was recorded using 3D audio effects and headphones are recommended for listeners to get the full effect. The third song, "Neglected Space", incorporates concepts, people and sounds from a lab organized by the Clear Village Charitable Trust to restore a walled garden in Bedfords Park.^[3] The fourth song, "Minds Without Fear", was the first song to be featured on the 2011 Indian show, The Dewarists.

The fifth song, "Xizi She Knows", was recorded during Heap's six-week trip at Hangzhou, China.^[4] The sixth song, "Me, the Machine", was recorded using the musical gloves. The seventh song, "You Know Where to Find Me", was recorded in London and is thematically about the River Thames.^[5] The eighth song, "Telemiscommunications", is a collaboration with Canadian house producer deadmau5which is included in his sixth album Album Title Goes Here.

Finishing as she started, Immi is asking her fans to join her in the final piece of the puzzle and add their voices to ‘The Listening Chair’ song.

How to get involved?

Hello!!
Is it the end of the year already? Crazy! This has been an entirely mental year for me. Bouncing from one project to the next. As it turns out.. just the way I like it!
I wanted to also say a HUGE thank you to everyone here for another year of what I feel is unconditional support and encouragement for all things I get up to! I know I’m not the easiest person to follow what goes on and don’t always do what perhaps musically you hope of me but if I so appreciate you’re with me (even if you’re not, I feel like you are!).
I think a brief, one thing per month recap is in order before I attempt to do all my Christmas shopping in 3 hours! Album release hopefully May / June 2013 along with extremely fancy new exciting (long overdue) website!
January – The year kicked off with Xizi She Knows, the song that emerged from my 6 week residency in Hangzhou, China and the video to accompany it, featuring some of the many wonderful people I met during my stay there.

February – I performed my 32 minute SeaShell and The Clergyman a cappella score at the Roundhouse Reverb Festival, London and the Sage Gateshead with the Holst Singers and The Sage choir.
March – An intense period of development for The Gloves, my dream composing, performance tool / instrument I’ve been developing with an ever growing fabulous team of people. This year I performed with the gloves at TED Global, Wired and AHRC.
April - I wrote and premièred ’Me The Machine’ via a live stream on Earth Day with the Gloves, powered by a solar, chip fat, and a bicycle powered set up in a field at the bottom of my garden! On Earth day, we also put up the Love The Earth film complete with my first attempt at an orchestral film score and it’s now up on Vimeo for all to see.
May – began The Listening Chair’s journey in Sydney where I performed at the Sydney Opera house an intimate piano, voice show of all the Heapsongs so far. The Listening Chair is a physical chair that collects messages from people who sit in it and from that wrote The A Cappella song so many of you suggested ideas for in answering the question ‘what is the song that still needs to be written’. Then premièred it at The Proms in August with Eric Whitacre with a massive choir! Woo! Every 7 years I’ll be writing another minute to the piece. It’s currently at 5 mins long as I’m 35 :).
June – Gathered ideas from lots of passers by via the Listening Chair on the Southbank for a song about the River Thames, before spending a night or two up in A Room For London, thanks to Artangel writing what then became You Know Where To Find Me...

July – performed at TED global with the Gloves and recorded pianos for You Know Where To Find me in 14 different locations mostly around peoples houses in Edinburgh, as seen in the video. Also this brilliant interactive map came out of it.
August - Deadmau5 released Telemiscommunications, the tune with wrote together that I love very much. We set up the animation competition this December that we’ll all see the fruits of in January next year! Also another collaboration began with the brilliant Dan Black that month. Hopefully to be on his new record next year.
September – started on the music for ‘The Happiest Place’ and helped, with many of you raise the money (and beyond!) for the film with their Kickstarter campaign. Connecting to the trek we made in the Himalayas, Bhutan last year.

I also released my first ringtone and if I don’t say so myself, a rather good one! ;)

October - I began working on my first music app, where I’m exploring for the first time writing generative and reactive music. The app / song is now called Run-Time’ and I’m working on it with my favourite music app developers, RJDJ. We began our collaboration starting with the Aldeburgh young musicians!
November – Honoured to present the Lovie Lifetime achievement award to Heinz Gerhauser of the Fraunhofer ISS where he and his team gave birth to the mighty mp3!

I also began curation on the  Reverb festival at the Roundhouse Camden happening in August 2014. Looking set to be a 5 day, 24 hour exploration in contemporary classical music complete with reactive and interactive ‘creatures’!
December – worked mainly on Run-Time and filmed the video for Run-Time on my birthday (9th December) with whoever fancied joining in last minute with people all around London! You can download the little scrapbook we’ve made with some short audio samples and explanations and follow the story so far here.
Also I arranged and released some sheet music for the first time ever! It’s for solo piano and voice (not the 14 pianos It was recorded on!) for the song You Know Where To Find Me, get it here.
In exciting further news! The Gloves are going to have their first National Television début on Dara O’Briain’s Science Club 30th December 2012, 8pm BBC2.
More news! I’d like to congratulate Thomas Ermacora and his organisation, Clearvillage.org on being awarded a major grant from the Big Lottery for The Walled Garden. With big thanks to the hardy heap fans who gave their green fingers during the garden angels lab for this project. This is where my song ‘Neglected Space’ grew from.

this is odd to say the least, and quite a departure from the PRR stuff. But then again, this may be some kind of art video and a segue/intro/outro kind of piece.

The name Peter Gabriel does come to mind, or even Kate Bush, Imogen Heap or Bjork in some ways.


also, I BELIEVE the demo below has been PULLED unfortunately. But hopefully she'll share that piece again, as it was pretty sweet sounding.

I haven't heard it yet, but shall later today. She says she has music coming the end of the year here, and early in 2013.

Music by Chloë Alper; a British singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She launched her career as a solo musician in 2012, having previously been best known as a singer and bassist in the British New prog rock group Pure Reason Revolution.

What I'm unclear on a bit here is, the name Flood going to be dropped? This may get a bit like the Jimmy Gnecco/Ours thing if that kind of stuff isn't mentioned early on.

EDIT:  The music she is making will be released under the name "Chloë" and the "Flood" name is not going to happen. Honestly, that makes a lot of sense given there's like a dozen bands with that name

already. Although there's a few "Chloe's as well.

I haven't watched or heard both the new single/video nor the 30min chat that is below between Imogen Heap and deadmau5. I could be wrong, but especially given his Canadian heritage, I think the name Deadmau5 I know most recently from working with, or at least mention from Canada's Daniel Victor of Neverending White Lights. But it may be something else as well, perhaps he did a remix or 2 on someone's album or b-side I recall seeing.

At any case, this song, I guess is the final track from deadmau5's latest record, and was collaboration between Imogen Heap and deadmau5.

This is her latest single and video for it, that is for sale on that link above (on her website). I haven't heard it or watched the video. It appears to be preventing certain countries, although there are ways around that I may try. But I also may just buy it anyway.

I'm not sure what this and the other songs she's put up online for sale mean, more than just singles. I still think she has a new record coming, but it may not happen for a few years. But I haven't kept tabs on her forum or even her twitterfacebook as much as I would like.

Kimbra and Janelle Monáe 7/14/12 Montreux Jazz Festival

I've made the comparison between the 2 ever since getting into Kimbra last Summer, but maybe this will finally bring more folks to follow why (and make the same comparison).

Both released rather impressive and well thought-out, refined, arty debut records in the last couple of years that were many years in the making. Both also have this great sense of music history they draw upon, especially soul music.

Now, having them play the same stage/bill is one thing, it might be another thing for this to lead to either/or a tour together or a collaboration.

I am curious, Kimbra knows who Janelle is, but does Janelle know Kimbra? likely, but how well? it'll be interesting if any comments come from Janelle after this show, that is I guess closing out this Jazz (of sorts) festival in France at Miles Davis Hall. Miles, being a big influence on Kimbra and possibly Janelle as well.

Now, if only Imogen Heap were there too. Maybe we'll see Miss Kimbra connecting down the road with her as well.
