Esperanza Spalding - 12 Little Spells (2017-2018)

This album dropped last Friday, October 18th. I of course per FB's lack of a myspace-blog-subscription like setup, didn't know.

I will be checking it out though. I really liked a lot of Exposure from earlier this year.

Touch in Mine, Thang and those last 3 tracks are all bangers.

Quite a good record; maybe not yet at the level of Emily's D+Evolution, but I may already enjoy it more than Exposure.

Those last 3 tracks are the proggy's really. I love it when she gets busy with the vocal layers and even lyrics. That is when her experiments really do work.

Also clearly, much better than the new Janelle Monae album and more or less wipes the floor with Kamasi-Hipster-Washington.

Esperanza Spalding - Exposure (2017-2018)

This album that I preordered on Vinyl, I'm not sure has any kind of official release date. But I along with every other Vinyl/CD Preorder received their copy within the last week or so.

I just wish they would have sent an actual DOWNLOAD LINK or Card in the Vinyl with the code, etc. Luckily, I found one.

Also it included a CD of extra songs which is titled Undeveloped, which I take to being bonus/tracks not fully finished, developed, etc. But I have checked out some of that already and am liking some of them.

I'm not sure if this will be as schizo or proggy as her last record I love, Emily's D+Evolution.  But I still am optimistic about how good this album is, per just watching it being made on the stream last September.

Oh, and I own 1 of 7777 copies on vinyl (# 2265)

And when it goes up for sale on CD I imagine and digitally, I'll try and remember to pass along links. But for now, this is a December release album.

I may have to check some of this out next week if time allows.

I have become a fan of hers over the last year or a bit less. She's progressive certainly, including jazz, funk, soul, pop among her styles.

I like many 1st saw her name pop-up a few years back when she won the grammy for best new artist, over people like Justin Bieber I recall.

She also guested previously on Janelle Monae's 2nd record, Electric Lady.

2016's Emily's D+Evolution saw her appeal more than ever to many, including me, because it was more diverse and featured more vocals.

It was frankly, her doing Prog.

At any case, I am looking forward to this, as many are. At a min. it's forward thinking and an adventurous way of making an album. Kind of Imogen Heap-like in a way.
