Keith Emerson Rest in Peace

Another revered musician from MY world is gone! Anyone's world I suppose. George Martin lived a full life, etc, but it is still sad.

But now Ketih.

I saw Keith once in 1998 at Grand Casino Hinckley with Dream Theater and Deep Purple. It was a very memorable show, including his famous work of getting on top of his piano and using a knife I recall.

While ELP aren't absolute favorite of mine, they are a band I have always enjoyed, and their best records like Tarkus and Brain Salad Surgery especially.

Godspeed..jeez, this has been one tough calendar year, and it's only March 11th :{

I hope this is the last for a long time.

But in the mean time, welcome back friends to the show that never ends, come inside come inside, and don't forget the life and work of the great Keith Emerson.

oh and I need to now for certain, spend time with his band The Nice. I guess him and Jimi Hendrix are now jamming up in heaven as they always did and meant to do after after 1970 (HELP happened in a parallel universe I will always believe).

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my good friend and brother-in-music, Keith Emerson. Keith was a gentle soul whose love for music and passion for his performance as a keyboard player will remain unmatched for many years to come. He was a pioneer and an innovator whose musical genius touched all of us in the worlds of rock, classical and jazz. I will always remember his warm smile, good sense of humor, compelling showmanship, and dedication to his musical craft. I am very lucky to have known him and to have made the music we did, together. Rest in peace, Keith.

Rachel Flowers: Covering Frank Zappa's "Inca Roads" + more

I've never heard of this quite talented young musician until just a bit ago, but I guess her talents have been known for quite awhile among some progressive rock and jazz fans.

As noted, posted above is her cover of Frank Zappa's classic piece "Inca Roads." Quite an interesting arrangement. And I'm not sure if she plays absolutely everything, but it wouldn't surprise me. And I guess she shares a birthday the man himself too, lol.

There are number of other videos on Youtube including a Joe Jackson medley and a bunch of ELP including her covering Karn Evil 9.



I just liked her page on FB, so perhaps more stuff will cross my radar about this young woman's music. But just from watching a few videos and her Inca Roads cover, I'm curious what she may do in the future.

Not a ton to say other than the fact the stories about how Rush (and others) are not in, or should have been in eons ago, should be funny to read leading up to knowing the results. I suppose even if they don't get in this year, they may get nominated again due to the fact they are finally nominated this year.

The whole opening up the Flood Gates for progressive rock bands to finally get in (as I posted here December of 2009) when thinking about when Genesis finally got in a few years ago, still may be far-fetched. But if Rush and Deep Purple do get in, Jethro Tull, Yes, ELP and even King Crimson may find their way on to the ballot soon after. The members of those groups being alive to attend if they got in may be an entirely different story (see Jon Lord).

I might vote for both Public Enemy and NWA, but I suppose by voting for them, it is like a vote against Purple and Rush.

ELP agrees to headline the new High Voltage Festival, the UK's new flagship classic rock event, on Sunday July n26, 2010. It is expected that fans from the Europe, USA, Japan and around the globe will fly into London to see this much anticipated and unique event

yay! lol..honestly, I'm not all that thrilled by this, but I suppose it's nice. I saw ELp with Dream Theater and Deep Purple (including Jon Lord) back in 1998 at the Grand Casino in Hinckley, MN. They were good certainly. But unless a full-scale tour were to happen, this is much less significant than the 1-off Led Zeppelin show a few years ago.

If it is the only show, it'll be taped and circulated I'm sure. Maybe on 7/26/10 (or 26/7/10) I'll pop in "Brain Salad Surgery" and "Tarkus" in tribute.
