General Update 2/7/16

I don't do these a lot, but once in awhile. And of course if time was available, this could be much longer, but I don't, etc.

Next week is Valentine's Day and I have my 1st full week off since the week after my wedding; per decent chance I'll be able to do some work in here and especially YouTube.

On YouTube, I made some recent videos that came out poor, so I never shared them. Vinyl/CDs, etc and news related. Hopefully if not before then, next week I'll be able to catch up and remake some of those, etc. Including maybe a Shoutout video as I have been finding some new channels to enjoy, namely this week. Kind of partially to fill the void that I feel without MinistryofMusic's channel active anymore.

Moving: related to YouTube perhaps, the plans are in the works, and to conclude, very likely I will be moving somewhere at the end of June, and putting most of my things into Storage, including Vinyl. I.e. the Vinyl videos may be taking a Hiatus for awhile.

What I'm moving to, not sure. It may just be with my wife at her place and then keeping clothes and essentials at her place or possibly my folks until the means arise to finally find a place for the 2 of us. House, Townhouse, Rental House, Duplex, etc.

Money Money Money of course. The problem is between the cost of a down payment being 20%, and her Student Loans, it may back our plans up for a few years at least. Maybe I'll win the Powerball though, hehe.

Health: dealing with the kidney stones still and this week, some kind of stomach issue. Not pain, nor cold or the flu symptoms. And unlikely Food poisoning. I fear it's related to my Kidney Stone medication. I see my Nephrologist in early March though.

I am seriously thinking as far as the videos, to start making them about stuff outside of music. Just favorite movies and TV Shows, dvds, etc. And my Graphic Novels too.

Perhaps that's a goal before all that stuff is put away in storage. The storage thing though it to Save Money. Sucks, buy my apt is more or less a large Storage Space anyway, and 1 I'm paying hundreds of dollars more than I need to, especially to try and save money for a down payment on a house/townhouse and those Student Loans.

But I do have plans of course, and maybe more of that stuff can be covered next week when I'm off, although of course I have a long list of things to get done that week too, which rarely ever happens on my weeks off.

They arrived at my post-office today. Absolutely lovely, not much more to say, other than I need to get around to buying a Turntable  even more, to actually listen to them now.

The typical no time to go in-depth about how I love this band's 2 records, blah blah.

They're awesome, and I've been hoping to find (still am I suppose) copies of both of them on Vinyl this year. And I did find some on discogs.com this weekend and nearly ordered a copy of Bellybutton, but failed to "Checkout." The price is cheaper for this newly released 12".

I saved a bit in shipping I believe by ordering both as well.

Maybe 2012 will be a big year for Jellyfish? a new biography is coming, and some talk about a Roger Manning + Jason Falkner and perhaps also Andy Sturmer collaboration as well.

Early ’90s power pop at its finest—commercially available for the first time on vinyl in the U.S.! After the demise of Andy Sturmer and Roger Manning’s Beatnik Beatch, the two recruited Roger’s brother Chris and former Three O’Clock guitarist Jason Falkner to create Jellyfish. While Jason and Chris left after the first album and tour—the follow-up, Spilt Milk, was created by Andy and Roger with help from Jon Brion (Aimee Mann, Kanye West, Fiona Apple, Spoon), Lyle Workman (Todd Rundgren, Bourgeois Tagg, Beck), and T-Bone Wolk (Hall & Oates).

 

Even though the group lasted for only two albums and four years, their influence on power pop bands since has been as profound as the bands that Jellyfish were influenced by: Cheap Trick, Big Star, Badfinger, Raspberries, Brian Wilson, and more—all part of the power pop tradition being handed down one generation at a time.

Omnivore Recordings’ release of the two Jellyfish albums on LP marks the first time either have been commercially available on vinyl in the U.S. Bellybuttonwas only released on vinyl as a promotional item in 1990—its only official release at the time was on CD. The first 1,500 copies of the Omnivore release carefully replicates the original tri-fold gatefold packaging and is pressed on translucent blue vinyl. Spilt Milk has a similar story. It was only released on vinyl in the U.K. The U.S. release was, again, only on CD. This time around Omnivore is pressing the first 1,500 copies on translucent green vinyl.

Now we know that late January is still a ways away and you’ll probably need something to do to keep you busy while you’re waiting for these pretty pieces of vinyl to be fully cooked. So we dug deep into our archives and found this illustration that was originally used for a coloring contest to promote the release of Bellybutton. We thought you might like to spend a little time coloring in Jellyfish (or maybe your kids would). If you come up with something of which you are particularly proud, go ahead and send it to us and we’ll post the ones we like.

Dream Theater - Scenes From a Memory VINYL

Kinda cool to finally see this, among dozens (if not 100's) of albums released during Vinyl's most limited period (1995-2005-ish) finally coming out on Vinyl record.

$30 though, but it is a double unlike the 70+ minute compact disc.

I have a list of I started and still need to work on before it'll be published on my rateyourmusic page, of albums like this one. I just question the ability, or even interest in purchasing so many of these albums, especially the longer ones (1 hour or more), that will be double LPs, and thus the cost being $30 or more.

One interesting thing to notice on that link is along with "Enjoy the Ride Records," Brookvale Records is also involved with the releasing of this. Brookvale of course is among others, Hotel of the Laughing Tree's label. Now what that may mean as far as HOTLT and Dream Theater? more likely than not, absolutely nothing. But I can't help but namedrop and want it to lead to something with the 2 bands involved again, such as a tour especially.

This May we will be celebrating 11 years of "Leitmotif" with its re-release on vinyl and a California tour where we'll be playing "Leitmotif" in its entirety.

I saw this show in full, but I'd love to again. And if in fact they are doing a vinyl release and this is not an April Fool's joke (it was posted on April 1st) I shall be purchasing at least 1 copy, even with the likelihood I never play it.
