The Jelly Jam - Profit (2015-2016)

The 1st single linked on the FB page isn't bad, namely the dreamy outro. I honestly don't even recall much about their last album from a couple of years ago, except not really getting all that into it. But perhaps this one will do more for me? The concept sounds interesting as well.

And I am up for hearing anything with Ty and John Myung regardless.

May 27th is the release date. And there are supposed to be some tour dates in fact, although the odds of a date coming to Minnesota are about as good as some of their music being played on 89.3 or 93X I suppose, lol.

MUSIC THEORIES RECORDINGS RELEASES THE FOURTH ALBUM ‘PROFIT’ OF ALL-STAR PROG ROCK BAND THE JELLY JAM ON MAY 27

Music Theories Recordings will release The Jelly Jam’s fourth full-length album Profit on May 27. The Jelly Jam is a three-piece rock band, consisting of Ty Tabor of King’s X on guitar, keyboards, and vocals; Rod Morgenstein of The Dixie Dregs and Winger on drums and keyboards; and John Myung of Dream Theater on bass, moog, and chapman stick.

What was a kind of outlet for creative surplus and started under the name Platypus a few years ago, has now established itself in the form a solid community. After the release of two records and after the leaving of keyboarder Derek Sherinian, the remaining Platypus protagonists Ty Tabor, John Myung and Rod Morgenstein sought new challenges under the banner of The Jelly Jam. In 2002 their self-named debut album came out; two years later, the successor 2 was delivered to the shops and in 2011 the band released their third album Shall We Descend.

Their upcoming album, Profit, will be the band’s first all-out concept album with the basic story written around the idea that we, the people of Earth have abused and exhausted the planet’s resources forcing mankind to either find a new home or face extinction.

Random Artist Feature: King's X (24 min Video)

Like the Vinyl Update video, my apologies for my voice sounding overly nasal per the cold/congestion I was/am battling when I made this video.

Also lack of physical copies of many albums. I own them all, but other than the actual discs, it would probably require a fair amount of time hunting them down. And/or the extended amount of time inserting images and converting the edited video with Premiere Elements, etc.

King's X (or "Sneak Preview") - "Linda" (from 1983)

Wow. I had never heard nor seen this video or song before. Not a bad, catchy tune. As much as I love King's X. I have not heard all that much of the music they made before their debut album Out of the Silent Planet, from 1988. But of course I know of their history, which dates nearly a decade before that record (1979 I believe is when Dug Pinnick and Ty Tabor met).

But the hardcore and longtime fans know a lot about this stuff, especially if they lived in Springfield, MO where Sneak Preview and the other names they went by (The Edge I recall being another).

I wonder if those folks have uploaded many other videos from these periods, as I'd be curious to see or hear more. I do have a bootleg or 2 of them playing a few covers like Roxanne by The Police. And I know they would play covers frequently. I even remember hearing about them covering Rush ("Tom Sawyer" I recall).

Jerry Gaskill (King's X) health concerns/HURRICANE SANDY EFFECT

I know there are so many others going through hell besides Jerry with the effects of this, but among them, Jerry and his wife Julie apparently lost their home due to Hurricane Sandy. The guy, while having a Rollercoaster of a 2012, you'd think Good Karma will eventually find him.

As a longtime fan of King's X and his drumming, and having met/chatted with Jerry many times, my thoughts are totally with him, his family and any other King's X fans/fans of his, like myself.

just a short clip shot late last year. Interesting perspective about where Dug and Ty are at. "The New Age" was awesome to hear live if I recall correctly.

Ty Tabor (King's X) Interview

This is really nice, yet almost depressing retrospective of King's X career. The 1st 3 videos mainly. It's really a good documentation of what they went through and how the music industry sadly works, or has worked in their time.

It's interesting, hearing him talking about the time frame of when they were a band. Their debut record, had it been more focused and a little more accessibility at the time, likely would have come out around '83 or '84. They really are more contemporaries of groups like Fates Warning and Queensryche, rather than Dream Theater let alone all the grunge bands they influenced (got raped-by).

And Doug, believe it or not, was in his 30's and early 40's in those early pics, lol.

The last couple of videos are more gear-oriented which is nice to hear about.

When the next King's X record is released? hopefully soon (maybe 2012?). Ty has a new The Jelly Jam album in 2011 1st though.

And while I can assure, in the delayed Music Essential series, King's X won't be absent, this almost taps into a lot of what I would talk about, but of course none of those clips explain my own personal history with them. But King's X are a band I love, loved for nearly 15 years now. Even as sadly limited as their success has been (compared to what it should be), I am certainly a happy fan they are still around, even without the amount of prolificacy they had when I 1st got into them (or earlier).
