I'm off today and had to drop a few items off at the storage space, so it was convenient to make a quick video.
The midseason may be including a video (likely without many physical items).
The React to Songs list, a video? I don't know how long (winded) going over it would be. Perhaps an abridged/summary video could work. Again, of course time permitting.

COMING SOON: Monkees Album Release Dates (comparing them with The Beatles, Beach Boys...)
It likely won't take days or all that many hours, but after seeing the common quote from media interviewing some of The Monkees, talking about how they outsold The Beatles and BB's (or The Rolling Stones?) combined.
It makes me want to look back at release dates of The Monkees albums and when certain Beatles, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones..maybe Hendrix and The Who (and Pink Floyd and Zeppelin perhaps)
Also some of the British Invasion and West Coast Psych/Jam bands. CSNY for example per Peter Tork's friendship with Stephen Stills.
I know the Monkees guys went over to England when The Beatles were making Sgt.Peppers, so the thought might be, what was the latest Monkees album out at that time?
I also may try and look at TV Air Dates with the likes of Star Trek (TOS) and maybe Batman as those are 2 shows The Monkees show sort of get associated with. I think some of the scenes were shot at the same studio, and the same production company? etc.
I may even check out the ole tviv.org with TV Lineups when the show aired.
Curiosity and recreational research I guess.
hopefully sooner than later (maybe before the Mike and Micky show on 3/14?)

Wow, a double fucking album! I was a little wary about this record, and am still slightly compared to the ArchAndroid, but man, the way it looks both in concept/ambition and potential storytelling again, I'm now a little more optimistic about it.

Prince and Miguel will be among the other guests, besides Erykah Badu on the 1st single.
Some song titles mentioned below:
-Q.U.E.E.N. (feat. Erykah Badu)
-Dorothy Dandridge Eyes
-Dance Apocalyptic
-Victory
-Primetime (feat. Miguel?)
Monáe's first single from The Electric Lady, "Q.U.E.E.N.", which features Erykah Badu, premiered on SoundCloud and made available for download purchase at the Itunes Store on April 23, 2013."Q.U.E.E.N" garnered 31,000 digital sales according to Nielsen Soundscan with the accompanying music video gaining four million Youtube views within its first week of release. Thematically, 'Electric Lady' will continue the utopian cyborg concepts of its predecessors, while presenting itself in more plainspoken, personal territory in addition to experimenting with genres beyond conventional Funk and Soul such as Jazz ("Dorothy Dandridge Eyes"), Pop-Punk ("Dance Apocalyptic"), Gospel ("Victory") and woozy, sensual vocal ballads ("Primetime", slated to be a duet with Miguel). The album will so far feature confirmed guest appearances by Prince and the aforementioned Miguel with production from previous collaborator Deep Cotton (a psychedelic punk act) and Roman GianArthur (a soul music composer), and is targeted for a September release date
11/5/12 1:45AM

In June 2012, Monáe performed two new songs, "Electric Lady" and "Dorothy Dandridge Eyes" — from her upcoming sophomore studio album, The Electric Lady — at Toronto's Jazz Festival.[24][25] In July 2012, for the second year in a row, she appeared at the renowned North Sea Jazz Festival in Europe as well as in the 46th edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland on the 14th.
Take the above source for what it's worth, being Wikipedia. Here's a couple of videos of the 2 songs mentioned about the album, live.
Certainly this album The Electric Lady, whenever it does come out (hopefully in 2013) is pretty high on my anticipation list. I doubt, but what if the name had some connection to either Jimi Hendrix or The Electric Ladyland studios.
Also a cool note I discovered over the weekend about Janelle in this link about Hidden songs the 8th track "Neon Gumbo" from The Archandroid (Suite II and III), when played backwards, sounds like a sequel to "Many Moons," from her debut EP Metropolis Suite I . "Many Moons" by the way, I have come to totally love, and find it as good if not better than anything off The Archandroid. There's even a cool short film/video of it.

According to NME, the Miguel track, "Prime Time," will feature a sample of the indie-rock godfathers, The Pixie's, classic "Where Is My Mind?"
We have a feeling this album is gunna push a lot of boundaries and bend a lot of genres. After all, this is the electric lady who adores talking about cyborgs almost as much as (and maybe more than) music!

It’s often been said that three-piece bands are the most expressive and most balanced musical units known to the rock world. Cream, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Rush, The Police, Primus … These legendary acts struck upon the correct ratio of musicianship and progressive songwriting by exploring uncharted musical territories while highlighting the individual talents within their collective ranks.
Now Magna Carta Records unveils Pinnick Gales Pridgen a visionary power trio (emphasis on power) and a supergroup to boot, which is sure to take its rightful place in rock’s hallowed halls.
Pinnick Gales Pridgen show some of their influences with their brilliant version of seminal power trio Cream’s “Sunshine Of Your Love”. Pinnick says, "Our version has a different vibe: it’s tuned down, real low.”
As much as I can't stand, or have lacking supportive thoughts towards Magna Carta, even as many years after the garbage that went down with their people and musicians/bands I liked, it can be sort of water under the bridge at this point.
And as much as I love King's X and Doug, most of his solo (Strum Sum Up, Emotional Animal, Poundhound and sideprojects (Supershine among many others), while often not bad, haven't quite compared to King's X. The sample video above and the samples on the link below I'll admit, have got me pretty intrigued about this album/band/project.
And Thomas Pridgen, who has only played on 2 albums I have heard, from memory, both with The Mars Volta of course. And his work on Octahedron, I honestly, have very little to no memory of. Which leaves The Bedlam in Goliath, which his playing was fine, but the mix was god awful. But the guy obviously has the chops and experience outside of TMV, which for this album, I still wouldn't doubt his ability for this record.
And Eric Gales, the name is familiar but I honestly don't recall hearing any music from, from memory at this point. But in just reading a little about him, I guess his roots are in Jimi Hendrix-style blues rock since the early 1990s.
I don't want to get ahead of myself, but those samples and video do sound rather intriguing about this album. Rather funky/bluesy hard rock of a kind. And the "Power Trio" as it emphasizes, which may suggest it does focus a lot on just songwriting and melodies with groove. Jimi Hendrix? yeah, I'm a fan. They even cover Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love," which of course Jimi was a Cream fan of course.
And the drop date for this album is soon, being on February 12th.

Ravi Shankar 1920-2012
can't believe so recently, 92 year olds Dave Brubeck, and now Ravi Shankar. The same age, and both legends in their genre. RIP #RaviShankar
http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/people/2012/12/11/avi-shankar-dies/1762831/

I can't lie in that I have known about his legend for many years, and have listened to some of his music, sparingly, but NOT NEARLY AS MUCH AS I SHOULD.
I even purchased, for like $1, his Live at Monterey International Pop Festival record on Vinyl. According to my friend John, he more or less was the best performer at Monterrey in '67, besides Hendrix.
But since I don't own a turn table yet, I can't play the record yet.
And of course he toured frequently, and eventually retired, but then came back, maybe more than once according to my friend.
Damn, Brubeck, Ray Charles, and many other legends who peaked long before my time, but still were around and played my hometown, and I never saw them :(.
His daughters are still around of course, Norah Jones and Anoushka Shankar. Although from my friend's accounts, when Anoushka would play with Ravi, the shows would always dropoff when Ravi wasn't playing.
O well, he did live a full life. RIP and Godspeed Ravi. There likely won't ever be a sitarist like you again.

Jimi Hendrix - Valleys of Neptune (2010)
I read something about this not too long ago. I guess the reason I'm posting a note about it now and in here is I will give this thing a go.
It's being released on March 9th, and the title track I guess is 1 of the singles.

1 Stone Free
2 Valleys of Neptune
3 Bleeding Heart
4 Hear My Train a Comin’
5 Mr. Bad Luck
6 Sunshine of Your Love
7 Lover Man
8 Ships Passing Through the Night
9 Fire
10 Red House
11 Lullaby for the Summer
12 Crying Blue Rain
the significance of this album, as they talked about on Sound Opinions this week, is it was some studio work that included Billy Cox with Mitch Mitchell.
edit: although just scanning the Wiki page, it appears Redding played on some of this. Of course many of these tracks are previously released songs by Jimi or covers. 5 tracks are unreleased and original I guess.
and here's the title track/single
I suppose it might be worth adding a bit of my background with Hendrix.
After being exposed to as a kid music from The Beatles and 80's top 40, Huey Lewis and Duran Duran, Michael Jackson and Prince, I discovered classic rock, namely with Led Zeppelin and then Rush along with Pink Floyd and some others. 1 of those others was Jimi Hendrix. But I only ended up collecting a couple of compilations from him along with "Are You Experienced?," "Electric Ladyland" and "Axis Bold as Love."
I also bought in high school the "Stages" boxed set which I found to be pretty sweet. 4 concerts from 4 different tours in successive years. Although a lot of the same songs were on each.

But that all happened when I was in High School, 16-19 years ago. Since, I never really found myself looking for the wealth of content his estate and other people released. Of course the Band of the Gypsies stuff, and a number of the demos and well regarded live releases.
Why? the biggest reason probably being investing time into other music. But also it was like a neverending task to try and own or hear even a fraction of his work. I just kind of threw in the towel. And what that speaks to is those people involved (record labels namely) just milking and raping his estate for everything it's worth. It kind of disgusted me.
So why now, am I going to be checking some of it out? I guess partially due to the fact this is technically a *new release.* Much like Soundscape, maudlin of the Well and Kevin Gilbert in 2009, having some brand spanking newly-released Jimi, even if it's only about an ep's worth of material, sounds like something I'd enjoy for nostalgia sake, like those from last year. And who knows, perhaps hearing this new release will get me to go back and seek out at least the cream of the crop of the work I haven't heard before.
