Majestyy - Dark Master

Another dark, synth-led tune from Brian Jacobs aka Majestyy. Damn,..loving this..it has some of the more ironic and *dark* wave elements of his music.

One thing though along with a couple of the other tracks he has shares, I wonder if having drums and guitar is not as much the approach of this project. A bit like Morgan Z's project Chrome Canyon, there's a general emphasis on keys/synths as a primary tone. But Brian at least does sing/write vocal lines.

Regardless, I wonder if Majestyy will try and release something official sometime soon, and a couple of years of "jams" ..with what, 4 or 5 tracks already? Maybe in 2015...

Introducing TUXEDO (Mayer Hawthorne + Jake One)

Official video for their song "Do It."

Tuxedo is a relaively new musical project/collaboration between Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One. I guess Jake One is known for his work with the Doomtree label, which is a well known Hip-Hop label from my hometown of Minneapolis, MN.

Tuxedo per a recent interview Mayer Hawthorne gave when he did a live stream on Yahoo below, mentioned how Tuxedo's debut album is looking to be released in February 2015. And per the video, it seems it'll be released on Stones Throw which is the label Mayer originally was with, and includes ex-Apes and Androids live performer Morgan Z's Chrome Canyon project.

Musically, Tuxedo differs from Mayer's solo work in some ways, sounding more funk and electronic I guess. Take Mayer's track "Designer Drug" I suppose their music resembles.

Also this new song/video "Do It" I like how the lyric "Her Favorite Song" is mentioned many times, which of course is the title of the track that received maybe the most exposure from his LP from 2013, Where Does This Door Go. Connection?..sort of Beatles or Zeppelin-esque if there is any.

Also "Do It" and the Nike catch phrase "Just Do It" keep coming to my mind, namely also Mayer's interest in Basketball Shoes (Air Jordan's I recall), although I suppose the odds of there being any connection with the title of this new song and Nike probably isn't likely.

The Orion Experience - Children of the Stars (2013)

I hopefully will be able to check this album out tomorrow. But before doing so, just thinking out loud, I wonder

Will this album be cheesy or actually be cool avoiding being too cheesy and melodramatic?

The band were cool enough to send me an Electronic Press Kit with a lot of info, images, quotes, descriptions, and much more.

The NYC Girl EP is quite good, hopefully this record will include more music of that vein. Although for some reason, with the space element, I wonder if some of it may resemble Chrome Canyon, or dare I say, my beloved Apes and Androids (they do come across similarly, but, I would be frankly, SHOCKED if I ended up even half as a attached to this album as Blood Moon, although I sort of thought the same thing about Pepe Deluxe last year afterall).

Some of the stuff in the EPK makes a lot comparisons. some to bands like the Scissor Sisters, MGMT but also Queen, Muse and Prince among a few dozen others among the track list.

One other note I'm not fully clear on, about the info and press release saying this is being released on August 15th, yet it has been available for sale (digitally at least), since June 21st per both Amazon and CD Baby.

Maybe the CD goes on sale on the 15th? The Press release also mentioned it is/has been for sale at these largely dramatic spectacle shows, which Google reveals a Kickstarter link to, which explains why they have been able to make them Broadway-like productions in some ways it appears.

Pop/Rock Band THE ORION EXPERIENCE
Announces the Release of New Electro-Pop Concept Album
CHILDREN OF THE STARS on August 15, 2013
THE ORION EXPERIENCE, An Intergalactic Theatrical Rock Concert Adventure
Constructed Around Music by the Band, to Play Off-Broadway at
XL Nightclub in NYC Beginning August 1

NEW YORK – July 18, 2013 – THE ORION EXPERIENCE is set to release their new electro-pop album
CHILDREN OF THE STARS on August 15, 2013. Inspired by the writings of famed astronomer Carl Sagan,
NYC-based THE ORION EXPERIENCE has created a mythical tale told through monologues with an
otherworldly resonance.

THE ORION EXPERIENCE lead singer Orion Simprini has always had an obsession with outer space, and
CHILDREN OF THE STARS is the musical love child of that infatuation. A departure from their previous
works, the largely electronic and synthesized music illustrates an inter-dimensional love story, a spiritual
awakening, and tales of heartbreak and hope, infused with a futuristic ambiance. Just as the concept takes
listeners on a journey, the music travels through the eras and styles that have influenced the band. This album
gives listeners a glimpse of what they will see when they attend the new Off-Broadway show THE ORION
EXPERIENCE. Beginning August 1 at XL Nightclub (512 West 42nd St.) in New York City, the immersive
intergalactic rock concert extravaganza is built around music by the band.
CHILDREN OF THE STARS truly draws musical influences from an array of different genres including pop,
rock, electronic, dance, disco, and Top 40. Simprini, along with co-writers, Linda Horwatt, and Reef Rox write
clever lyrics, with tricks up their sleeves at every juncture. Repeat listening reveals their subtleties. What is a
Star Child? Lyrical definitions of the acronym S.T.A.R. include: “Super-sonic Techno-tramp Androgynous
Renascent” and “Sensual Telepathy Alter my Reality.” THE ORION EXPERIENCE is also defined by intricate
vocal arrangements, never taking the easy way out by using typical pop harmonies, which further
demonstrates their musicality. Listeners are reminded that love trumps all – that in a time when chaos, war,
and disaster seem to cloud our lives, if “you believe in love, then love saves the day.”
According to Orion, named appropriately by his astronomer father, who grew up “the first time vinyl records
were cool,” albums once were listened to straight through. CHILDREN OF THE STARS strives to recreate
that experience for the listener. “While it is possible, of course, to buy the individual tracks on iTunes, we hope
listeners will treat this as a true concept album,” says Simprini. “We invite listeners to partake in the relaxation
method of their choice, and then consume the album in one sitting, as one whole piece.”
Songs featured on CHILDREN OF THE STARS that will be featured in the Off-Broadway production of THE
ORION EXPERIENCE include the tracks “Children of the Stars,” “S.T.A.R. Child,” “Electric Moves,” “Made 4
You,” “Heart In My Pocket,” “Win It All,” and “Love Saves the Day,” as well as songs from their three previous
albums, and a new track written for the show. Their music is enhanced by dancers, aerialists, a space ship, a
sassy talking computer, fog machines, space vampires, cocktails, and much more.

The band THE ORION EXPERIENCE is an explosion of high-energy disco pop. Superbly crafted pop
songwriting and irresistible hooks are their calling card. THE ORION EXPERIENCE is: Orion Simprini (lead
vocals/rhythm guitar), Linda Horwatt (vocals/keyboards), and Reef Rox (lead guitar/vocals, who also has a coproducer
credit on the album).
Digital copies of CHILDREN OF THE STARS are available now through iTunes. Physical CDs will be
available for purchase at the show THE ORION EXPERIENCE, and later (along with limited edition vinyl
records) on the band’s website.
Tickets to THE ORION EXPERIENCE at XL Nightclub (Directed by Travis Greisler and presented by Ryan
Bogner) are available at www.theorionexperience.com, by calling 212-352-3101, or at the venue.

Majestyy - (Brian Jacobs, ex-Apes and Androids)

5/22/13 10:58PM

Majestyy's latest Tumblr has a Soundcloud Stream (not an embed or dl) of the new track BEAUTIFUL CHILD OF EVERLASTING LOVE

another great tune, although a little slower. Even some vocoder it sounds like. The only thing I wonder about with their style is how much if any GUITAR will be incoporated (which is one part of Brian/A&A's music I always love).

11/30/12 12:57AM

Oh. My. Gawd. Here's 1 story from stereogum.com

Well, honestly, the Majestyy project/account/pseudo name etc, that Brian Jacobs has had online for a few years, seeing some music from, shouldn't be unbelievably shocking. He's been doing remixes of pop songs, and posting cool videos and political opinions I've noticed over the last couple of years. In other words, he's been using social media, and doing things with technology, and being a musician, odds are he'd want to put down some ideas in his head post-Apes and Androids.

Plus with Morgan Z putting out the Chrome Canyon releases this past year (a Full-Length, and an EP), that may have inspired Brian to want to make some music again.

But, as he refers to these as "jams" I'm not sure what they will end up as. I do know, I am pretty ecstatic to hear them. "The Notion" sort of echoes some Blood Moon stuff, but my impression is, I'm not sure if A&A's would have written something as upbeat and directly pop. But there's still some of their style there certainly.

I guess maybe the coming weeks/months may hold some plans for Brian and Majestyy. Perhaps a big year coming in 2013 for him. Of course, the thing that still springs to my mind, is where is the other half of my dynamic duo of A&A's in David Tobias? I've been asking myself that question for a few years, which kind of leads me to only guess he's gone on and got a real/dayjob and the music stuff may be on hold, if not done. But incommunicado can mean a lot of things that don't surface for awhile.

Chrome Canyon - Body Music [EP] (2012)

1 Computers of Love (Original Mix) 3:47
2 Computers of Love (Melee Beats Remix) 5:12
3 Computers of Love (Douze Mix) 5:55
4 Body Music (Original Mix) 3:33
5 Body Music (Heroismo Remix) 5:07
6 Body Music (Stavarsky Remix) 3:32

I just checked this debut EP out as it was released earlier today (yesterday), and it's stream-able there on Soundcloud.

This is the project of Morgan Z, who I believe has worked with a few different bands/artists as a keyboardist and for mixing, remixing, etc. But the biggest thing to me about the guy is his work with Apes and Androids, I want to say entirely with their live shows a few years ago.

The music on this EP, while not exactly like A&A's, does feature a lot of that heavy electronic/synth driven songs. The vocal use is processed, perhaps a heavy amount of auto-tuning or vocoder. Why? it does fit the music, but perhaps he's not into writing vocals like A&A's for now.

It includes 2 additional remixes from other DJ's, and is available on iTunes as well as This Beatport and Juno links.

I guess my biggest/only issue with it, other than I'm skeptical how addictive it'll become, is the lack of including this track "Branches" which a video was made, that I've embedded below. That piece I think is better than any of the original or remixes on this EP. Very Tangerine Dream or even Pink Floyd-y in a way, especially with the footage in the video. It's rather surreal, hypnotic and dreamy.

Maybe that track will be released at a later point.

Also, one thing that is kind of cool, like his former bandmate in Apes and Androids,  Brian Jacobs (under his own name, as well as the moniker Majestyy with 2 y's), if you like remixes of new, popular or even obscure songs, the Chrome Canyon Facebook page and other links would be worth following.
