Which isn't the 1st King's X Documentay as I have Then on VHS which I bought I think back in the 90's/ To go along with the upcoming new King's X album and BOOK coming in February

Also Doug is going to be working with of all people, CHRISTIAN NESMITH soon on a project I guess (I can't find the FB post right now, but I'll edit in later). I do know Doug and Christian are friends per Doug's been seen backstage with Christian and Mike after Monkees shows recently.

Michael Nesmith and the First National Band @ The Troubadour 1/25/18

So the wife and I made the trek out the Sunny Hollywood, California to see Michael Nesmith and his newly formed live 1st National Band perform last night, January 25th.

Details:

1st off, it was at The famed The Troubadour club, which I took some pics below, and many famous bands and artists have played there. But of course, the #1 to me is the classic Kevin Gilbert live album from 1995, that was later released as a DVD.

It was kind of surreal to be there, knowing 22+ years before Kevin and his Thud band played and recorded that show.

I can say, I thought it would be larger, but it does not look much if any different than from the video clips.

So 2ndly, of course the wife LOVES Michael Nesmith maybe more than I do Kevin. And the music he and this large ensemble group performed was largely from Michael's 1st 3 albums, which were under the "First National Band" name.

Now, my favorite Nez tune, "Wax Minute" was not on 1 of those 3, per it comes off Tantamount a Treason, which was the "2nd National Band"

but alas.

This show SMOKED! His band is fantastic! Of course it includes 2 of his 3 sons, Christian and Jonathan, both on guitars and vocals. And Christian's partner Circe Link did a lot of background vocals including harmonies along 1 other female singer.

Pete Finney who he got to play all those sweet, smooth and trippy Red Rhodes slide-guitar parts.

Jim Cox on Piano
Jason Chesney on Bass,
Christopher Allis on drums

I'm not sure if I can name every highlight, but 2 of them were definitely 2 of the tunes my wife looked forward to most.

"Lady of the Valley" and "Tengo Amore"

omg, LADY OF THE VALLEY is totally trippy! Like Pink Floyd trippy almost.

And Tengo Amore, has this outstanding percussive rhythm to it.

Even the standards like the 2 Monkees tunes, Joanne and Rio sounded wonderful; and more full even compared to the 2 other shows we saw Mike in 2013.

I gotta say, if we never get to see Nez again, this was 1 helluva show to remember. But per the wife, there may be both an East Coast tour for the First National Band in the works, and also a Mike and Micky Dolenz tour that may be happening soon. And in fact Micky Dolenz was at the show (he attended the show on Tuesday at the Coach House as well), sitting next to Jessica Nesmith. We ended up seeing him outside as well before the show.

Also 1 other possible celebrity sighting was Branscombe Richmond who may be best known for his role in the show Renegade (alongside Lorenzo Llamas). It was either him, or someone who looked A LOT like him.

I included some other pics below as well, just spending time in Hollywood. We stayed literally 1 block off Hollywood Blvd, and saw literally hundreds of those stars on the walk of fame. Rush, Phil Collins and Hall and Oates included. I just only stopped to snap a pic of The Monkees one.

And we went to Amoeba. I found some stuff, but didn't grab everything. I'll try and make a video showing/telling I hope. Of course the prices of everything out there is higher, and the driving/drivers are crazy. But I successfully avoided the hated 405 Freeway at least.

Circe Link - Fearless (Pink Floyd Cover Video)

Very cool, trippy cover video from Circe and Christian Nesmith. Their cover videos are always well done and original looking and sounding. I love that 12-string guitar among other things about this.

Newly redesigned/revampied. THUD has been pushed back due a strike of some kind, until January. The other 2 released, Toy Matinee Acoustic and The Lamb Performance are up there now though.

Also a sweet alternate version of "Goodness Gracious." I like the different lyrics especially,

2nd preview. "Miss Broadway" included (not surprising).

9/29/14 12:40PM

Sucker is coming and "oh yes!" on Vinyl for the first time. "Big Heart" sounds rather power-pop-ish.

Damn I can't wait!. November cannot come soon enough. I'll probably order a couple copies of the vinyl in fact. The details that are passed along from now til then I'm sure will be updated in here of course.

VINYL???!!!!!!!

Yes please. 500 of them need to sell at $60 a pop. The 2011? Shaming Vinyl campaign didn't quite make it (and I'll admit, I didn't but definitely should have ordered 1), but I don't recall what the goal was for that, but for some reason I suspect it was a little more.

But $60? sheesh, hell fucking yeah!

to help the chances of this to sell 500.

As some of you may already know, this fall, The Estate of Kevin Gilbert is releasing a limited, 34 track, 3 CD, 20th anniversary, deluxe edition, of Kevin’s solo album Thud.

\ We are wondering if there is enough interest to have 500 of the sets include a 2 disc, 180 gram, audiophile vinyl version of the original CD. This will be mastered from the original analogue tapes.

We hope to have the 3 CD set, which includes a 32 page, full color, hard bound book, sell for $30. The version including the vinyl will cost an extra $30, totaling $60. The CD set will be available separately for $30 but vinyl will ONLY be available as part of the entire $60 set.

Please respond here under this post (or on Kevin Gilbert's Official FaceBook page) and let us know if you would buy the edition including vinyl. We will only press vinyl if we get enough positive responses.

Best regards, Jon Rubin

COMING FALL 2014

I'm giddy about this, 3 new (unreleased) and 18 unreleased demos/alternate mixes.

I probably should include that it is still my and many others hope this and Shaming especially, find their way onto a VINYL release someday, but beggars..of course.

I'm seeing The Monkees tonight ironically, and if I have a chance to chat with Christian Nesmith, I may have to bring this up. Interesting TIMING.

Also speculation about what those 3 tracks may be. I wonder if 1 may be "Miss Broadway" and perhaps a handful of other versions of songs that in different forms, ended up on Shaming.

But, whatever they are, I'm sure most of the Kevin Gilbert geeks like myself will still be pretty crazy for this.

Christian Nesmith and the Theme Music Players - Kevin Gilbert tribute

A large amount of irony for myself seeing this. Not so much because these are covers/tributes to Kevin Gilbert, as there are certainly a handful of those out there on Youtube and other places. I recall when I 1st got into Kevin Gilbert, his website had a handful of tribute songs available to download (which they still may, I haven't looked for them in years there).

But the irony is, Christian Nesmith is the oldest son of Michael Nesmith, who of course was in The Monkees and has an extensive solo career since the early 1970's. And I recently have discovered enjoyment for Michael Nesmith's solo music. But also my girlfriend is about as big of a Michael Nesmith and Monkees fan out there, and she has been exposed to Kevin's music ever since knowing me of course.

Tying the 2 together is unexpected, but now thinking about it, it's not so odd. Kevin was a big Monkees fan. Peter Tork I guess once attended a private event Kevin's band Kaviar played not long before his death. And Kevin along with Marc Bonilla I recall, did a cover of "Pleasant Valley Sunday" live on a radio show which is streamable on Kevin's site I think. It was shortly after Toy Matinee had come out.

These versions are pretty faithful to the originals, although pretty nice visual parts with "Suit Fugue" including using some "A&R Women."

I suspect Christian attended The Shaming of the True tribute show back in June in Southern California. Had I been there and met him or even Mike, my girlfriend would have freaked, haha. Maybe another time.
