Short review:
Typhoon played their 1st headlining show in Minnesota for the 1st time since 2013.
This may not be the 100% EXACT set list per I didn't know (or even could hear clearly) every song of the night, but I got this from the show in Utah on January 10th per setlist.fm.
I know they played "Remember" 1 of 3 favorites off Offerings. And I know they played Rorschach as well as I would guess 3-6 other songs from Offerings.
And I recall they played "Artificial Light" from White Lighter.

Anyway, to give some other basic details. The band had 7 or 8 members on stage, which for most bands would be quite a lot. But honestly, per my 1st/last experience seeing them at The Cedar Cultural Center with i'm almost certain at least 15 maybe more like 20 members both on stage and on the floor, Typhoon was a bit stripped down.
But still, great show, 2 drummers, a violinist, keyboards, 2 guitars, multiple singers besides Kyle Morton, etc.
And I follow why per cost. It can't be easy touring with that many people, etc.
The openers were pretty good. Sunbathe actually is Maggie from Genders new band, and were nice, sort of dream/shoegaze pop. She told me a new Genders album is coming soon too.
And Mimicking Birds actually I may check out now, as they had some of these cool guitar tones and moods. The crowd next to me for both openers and even for a bit of Typhoon, kept talking, which didn't help.
But overall fun show. And I definitely have more content about Typhoon soon per inspiration and of course that Chamber Folk/Rock/Pop entry sometime in the near future, which I have been working on here and there over the last few weeks.
Oh and also I did learn that A New Kind of House, the EP from 2011 from Typhoon actually features members of The Family Crest. A friend of mine who loves TFC and for that matter, the new TFC fans per The Dear Hunter tour, would have even more reason to check out Typhoon.
And of course vinyl coming on Video (both the new album and some cds and 7" I got at the show last night)

The new Typhoon album OFFERINGS is finally coming out on January 12th, 2018!
Sounds MASSIVE and largely AMBITIOUS, but then again this is Typhoon. Their VERY NAME evokes images of that kind of size, let alone the size of their band itself (25 or 30 members?
Incredibly stoked for this album of course!
White Lighter from 2013 was awesome, and it's been a long 4+ years since then.
And below is the 1st Suite of a sort that is 21 minutes long (for those who got to attend a Listening Party, it's not new. I'm highly envious of them, but alas, there was not Minneapolis Listening Party over the last few weeks. Hopefully for the next album?
edit: LOVING the 1st movement/21 minutes below. They may actually TOP White Lighter with this thing, which seems hard to fathom.

RORSCHACH Eyes on the screen. We have all the information now but what does it mean? Reason’s a tease. Drank up all that hemlock, here I am just reading the leaves. Left wondering: what happened to the life we lost, that got lost in the living? All this fiction makes me nervous, turns out it was blood spilled on the canvas we admired just like some Rorschach painting. The film in your brain—it edits to remember, keeps the figure in the frame. A sacrificial violence, all those passed over in silence then cast out with the blame. And I’m trying to stay sane—meanwhile, the river of forgetfulness starts spilling the banks. Caught in a lie and instead of fessing up we'd sooner just go out of our heads. I’ve been holding up my end when I should have doubled down on my own atom bomb shelter instead.
EMPIRICIST Empty room. Cast about for a familiar object. Because my body needs coordinates to move. In the dark. Range of motion shrivels all around me. All my nightmares I am slowly being cocooned. A single calf in the hecatomb. Crescent moon. Hollowed out of all my fabled insides. Occam shave me down to primal truth—return me to the womb. Mother pulled from father’s ribs, little baby in a crib, hands reaching up. Before the blinding light is split through the prism of your organs into color. All that being and nothingness, on the same möbius strip. Sleep and waking up. On the first day. Wipe the blank slate. And you join the banquet. Served up helpless on a plate. You find your land legs. And you learn to imitate. You’ll wear any feathers and hope that your efforts attract a mate. One day your children find you, locked in the bathroom, staring in horror at the reflection of your face. You say you're sorry to the guests at your party. But you can't help wonder, who is this person you celebrate? And so the light fades. It’s still your birthday. Blow out your past lives like they're candles on the cake.
ALGERNON A woman leans in her chair. Holds her face close to mine. She’s curious, am I comfortable? Would I care to give it one more try? She holds the picture up while she studies my eyes. I’m trying hard to recall the routine, but I can't and so I improvise. This one's of my father. Wearing ladies clothes. I walked in on him once as a kid. Must have thought nobody else was home. It's a lie and she knows. But there's no other use. And anyway what you want and what you want to be are easily confused. The moment stretches on. Like the first day of school and I've answered wrong. Like a self-enclosed short-circuit goes around forever until it's gone. A woman shrinks in her chair. She says the picture's of you. I have no idea what she's talking about but I nod my head as if I do. Look at there such a strong man. All the virtues of youth. You led a good life by every account. There were people who looked up to you. I say enough is enough. You have found me out. You have called my bluff. I don't know anything about this stuff. I’m just tired and I’m waiting for my wife to pick me up. A woman slouched in her chair disrupts the silence to say. The part of you that I love is still in there even if it doesn't know my name. The moment stretches on. Like the colonnade at the Parthenon. It’s an unmarked grave but somebody's laid some flowers for Algernon. ------

Crippled Black Phoenix - White Light Generator (2014)
I enjoy a lot of the records this band has made, even if some of the pieces seem to/can overstay their welcome a bit. And this record doesn't appear to be too short like some of their other extensive-ideas based albums.
But, it's coming in only a couple of weeks, and I usually enjoy more than enough from them to still want to go back to it.
Also interesting how the title almost looks like the great Typhoon record from 2013, White Lighter. Maybe the 2 bands should tour together?

Unsure exactly when all this came out, but I know I was checking for awhile per their Facebook page and didn't see anything, but then today the video for Dreams of Cannibalism was shared. At any case, definitely a record to look forward to; but I am still un exposed to the videos below save for the one back from December.
But maybe this record could be a bit of a sleeper?..I hope so. August 20th should be a big day for their fans.

White Lighter - An Album by Typhoon from Matthew Ross on Vimeo.
So this is a promotional video for this upcoming album from the Portland, Oregon band Typhoon. A band by the way, it appears has 11 members and an additional 4-5 who also help out. I guess Margot and the Nuclear So and So's, back in the day, was not far from that large a band as well. But wow, that's a lot of musicians making the same music.
Anyway, that promo, doesn't really have any music, but some kid talking to his mom about the Sun and his dad. Maybe the subject matter of the album will involve the Sun? But, regardless, I got into them back in 2011 via their EP/Mini album A New Kind of House. I really enjoy a lot of that record and it's sort of subtle, chamber college prog of a kind. And to mention Margot again, I do see this band as maybe filling the void without Margot sounding or really being the same band, at least stylistically, they used to be.
When does this album come out? That hopefully will come out soon, and I'll be passing along in here of course.
