Local Natives - Hummingbird (2013)

it's supposed to be streamable here for the next 2 weeks. FTR, i am digging it, but I have not been able to listen to it more than a couple of times yet. It's a different kind of record, but I still enjoy something about nearly every track.

And of course, the hordes of hipster/bloggers comments and reviews are nauseating, between the comparisons to The National and especially the 'West Coast Grizzly Bear" garbage. But that is nothing new. Nor is the lack of anything about close to the p-word or even chamber rock.

Blech, hopefully, a more detailed review will come soon. back issues, other albums., and time have been what has backed me up so far. But I do have it as the 2nd best release of 2013 already.

It's just a stream, I'm luke warm about hearing that. More dreamy and less energetic, but until hearing it with headphones, the jury is still out.

I haven't heard the new single of course. The band made a special appearance at CMJ a few nights ago as well.

Fuck Fuck Fuck..Its stuff like this that comes out so damn quickly and I'm slow. Why this blog, if I were smart, would die. But I'm not smart of course, and I'm also only by the band known to be 1 of their longest time fans outside of their hometown.

But I have got to say, even before hearing the 1st single and album, I hope/almost expect, despite the fact they worked with someone from The National (who I think are hipster drivel), that this record not only will be awesome, but vastly superior to all the other hipster garbage that's come since Gorilla Manor ala Fleet Kittens, Grizzly Cub, Yeasayer, Arcade Fire, Beach House, Sleigh Bells, Mumford and Sons, Tame Impala, Tune Yards, Animal Collective/Panda Bear and related crap, and many others I'm not even remembering right now.

Pretty large sum there, but given the number of things they are looking to help *kickstart* (Live CD, Documentary DVD, new studio record), and the number of people involved with the 'Spree, 100K may not seem so outrageously high.

Plus it's not like they're a completely obscure band (despite their hiatus of sorts from '2008-2010). I still say, all the lemmings who kiss the ass of Arcade Fire should appreciate these guys a ton more. But whatevah.

They're at 30K with 44 days left. With others I have been skeptical, but after seeing most of those succeed, I'd be a bit surprised if this one did not succeed as well.

New single featured on Best of MySpace podcast

Our new single - We Won't Be Here Tomorrow - opens the latest Best of MySpace podcast (No. 97) which features 'the best new music on MySpace as nominated by the listeners'.

The podcast is currently in the iTunes Top 100 and one of the tracks will make it onto Gill Mill's NME Radio Show on Sunday evening, 4-6pm. Lets hope it's ours!!

If Gogol Bordello and Arcade Fire were to form a band with some of The Doves, this is pretty close to what they’d sound like.

Not that I care for Arcade Fire of course, but that description isn't awful. I'm not sure how much this actually means, but obviously some people are becoming aware of them.

Hey! Selim drops on August 2nd. It sure would be nice to see some artwork and a track list soon.
