The trailer below sounds excellent, and the 1st track "The Pressure" as well. Whether they changed their name from Happy Body Slow Brain, and I guess are now a trio, this could be a less-is-more or change-is-for-the-good, etc.

RX Bandits - Gemini, Her Majesty [2014]

This band came back in 2013 with a cover of King Crimson track 21st Century Schizoid Man, after a hiatus/breakup a few years ago (2011).

With the help of a Pledgemusic Campaign, they have not made a new record. The 1st song "Meow! Meow! Space Tiger" sounds pretty sweet and is streaming below.

This record is only 10 days from being released as it's listed as coming out on July 22nd.

Casey Crescenzo Presents: Amour & Attrition: A Symphony in Four Movements

Today, Casey Crescenzo – multi-instrumentalist and frontman of
The Dear Hunter – announces the official release dates for his debut symphony,
“Amour & Attrition.” The symphony will be released digitally on June 3 and
physically (CD/vinyl) on June 24. Preorders for “Amour & Attrition” are

This past November, “Amour & Attrition” was performed in its entirety and
recorded in the Czech Republic with the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra under the
direction of conductor Mikel Toms. The project was funded by over 1,200
supporters through crowdfunding platform PledgeMusic, exceeding its goal in just
a couple of weeks and allowing Crescenzo to fulfill his longtime dream of
writing and recording his very own symphony with a full orchestra. Some clips

“Mikel Toms, the conductor of the Brno orchestra, is definitely owed a deep
amount of gratitude from me for making this a reality,” shares Crescenzo. “He
assisted me in every step, from scheduling, reviewing my scores, and so much
more. He also really took the time to understand the motive of the music, and it
shows in the recording.”

He continues, “While I do feel a great sense of accomplishment, I know that it
wouldn’t have been remotely possible without the incredible help, and
encouragement, from the community of people who supported this project. The best
way I could show my appreciation was by pouring myself into the symphony and
creating something we could all be proud to say we were a part of. I am ecstatic
for people to hear ‘Amour & Attrition.’”

The symphony will be self-released through Cave & Canary Goods — Crescenzo’s
personal imprint label within Equal Vision Records — which recently released
Naive Thieves’ debut full-length album “Vámonos,” which Crescenzo produced, as
well as The Dear Hunter’s latest album, “Migrant.”

This summer, The Dear Hunter will head out on a five-week U.S. co-headline tour
with RX Bandits, and supporting act From Indian Lakes. The tour will kick off on
July 11 in St. Petersburg and wrap up on August 17 in Houston. All upcoming tour
dates for The Dear Hunter can be found below.

Following the tour, The Dear Hunter will next enter the studio to record the
highly anticipated follow-up to “Migrant.”

“After an extended silent season, I am beyond ready for my band to get back out
into the world,” concludes Crescenzo. “This tour couldn’t have come at a better
time. I’m so excited to see old friends, make new ones, and sing until my lungs
break.”

Below is a podcast that around the 12 or 13-minute mark, an extensive interview/discussion with Casey  (1 hour and 10 minutes?) about this upcoming Symphony (apparently finally coming out in JUNE), his history and future including confirmation that Act IV will be made, as he mentions after the next record The Dear Hunter make (and he mentions having written like 20 songs for it already), and his next Symphony. Time-wise for Act IV? perhaps around 2016?

Finally get to see a test copy of the staff music book for my first symphony... As if I even know what I'm looking at. So close to releasing this! Can't contain the excitement to finally have people hear it, and witness music blogs suddenly have an opinion on orchestral music- and find all new ways to call me pretentious and grandiose! 😎 #cantreadmusic

Here's what I imagine is the 1st of many videos and information that Casey will share about this.

RX Bandits - 21st Century Schizoid Man (King Crimson cover)

The last I heard about these guys is they broke up, and then got back together, sort-of. Not that I was ever obsessed with them, but I enjoyed the 2 or 3 times I saw them live, and some of their studio records were pretty good.

This is a pretty sweet cover though...5:49 Black Sabbath?

What this may also mean for the status of the band? perhaps a new record sometime in the next year or 2 perhaps and maybe more touring? who knows. If these guys are back together now, I'd love to see some other recently hiatus-ed/broken up groups get back together as well (Oceansize or Pure Reason Revolution would be high..Kaddisfly already are as well).

RX Bandits are currently on the road celebrating the 10 year anniversary of 2003’s The Resignation. They’ve also had time for some new recordings as well. Today we premiere the group’s cover of King Crimson’s “21st Century Schizoid Man.” Here is what RX Bandits’ Steve Choi has to say about their version of the song from King Crimson’s 1969 debut album, In the Court of the Crimson King : “The Mighty King Crimson. We definitely feel a creative affinity for their aim and vibe, although we wouldn’t presume to say we have reached half the audience they have. Those of you familiar with this song I’m sure are familiar with the yolk of the tune which would be the bridge shred section. We went back and forth unable to decide whether to recreate, or re-interpret and do our own version of the original bridge. In the end we decided to totally break off and completely go our own way with it. We are what we are by being creatively self-indulgent at times. We hope we did this simple and noble tune justice.”

RX Bandits RIP (1995-2011)

I just saw this announcement over on Traversing and posted this

they were a great, energetic live band, and had some cool moments, namely with the horns. But I honestly can't forget how their fanbase walked out on dredg in St.Paul a couple of years ago.

Now, obviously that has nothing to do with the band, nor the majority of their fans, but seeing the fans who were at that show leave, has forced me to associate that about their fans and them in general.

But it's still unfortunate, and they are a band I have enjoyed. So it's still not anything to be happy about.

A number of you wrote in with the news that progressive ska/rock outfit Rx Bandits have announced their retirement, effective after their forthcoming summer tour. The band, which took its earliest incarnation in 1995, released music through Drive-Thru Records, Mash Down Babylon and Sargent House and had this to say:

We would like to express our love and appreciation for all that you've done for us and how much a part of our growth you have been. We have all mutually decided that this summer will be our last tour. We love each other and love you all and hope to see you at the shows.

The dates in question have not yet been announced. Their last record was Mandala in 2009.

So, it's nothing to be happy about. I suppose if their tour hits town I will try and go. Mandala I actually found a little underwhelming considering what I thought it might be (more progressive). But the lack of Horns actually didn't appeal to me.

But, I suppose it might be worth revisiting their studio work again. I recall getting kind of into them for a short while after seeing them for the 1st time in 2007. Although, I also have sensed they are 1 of those bands, like many jam bands, that have a sound that is good for what it is, but after a little while, it tends to sound a little samey.

Perhaps my feeling about that could change now. Regardless, another name to add to the casualty list :\. I suppose at least I don't have to worry about their fans walking out on dredg or another band now (j/k).
