So this was announced on Friday and I never got around to sharing the details of the 4th proper record from Local Natives, Violet Street, coming out on April 26th.
The 1st single "Cafe Amarillo" I shared a little while ago, and the 2nd single/video "When am I Gonna Lose You" is below.
I'm kind of indifferent to both of those tunes. Not bad, a little more funky/groove-oriented. Some nice vocal parts, but I'm not fully attached.
But these guys have yet to release an album I was disappointed with, so I'm not assuming anything based on those 1st 2 tracks. Sunlit Youth, Hummingbird, Gorilla Manor are all among the best record over the last decade.
1. Vogue
2. When am I Gonna Lose You
3. Cafe Amarillo
4. Munich II
5. Megaton Mile
6. Someday Now
7. Shy
8. Garden of Elysian
9. Gulf Shores
10. Tap Dancer
This album has a release date of September 9th, 2016. Both Gorilla Manor and their last record Hummingbird I rate rather high, and especially the 1st single "Past Lives" adds to my optimism about this new record from Local Natives.
1 Villainy 3:43
2 Past Lives 3:43
3 Dark Days 3:01
4 Fountain of Youth 3:53
5 Masters 4:24
6 Jellyfish 2:50
7 Coins 3:58
8 Mother Emanuel 3:44
9 Ellie Alice2:56
10 Psycho Lovers 3:54
11 Everything All at Once 4:10
12 Sea of Years 5:10
It slipped my mind it was last night. I haven't watched it yet, but I shall later. I am finally getting a good assessment of Hummingbird, and I might compare it to MuteMath's 2nd LP Armistice (not stylistically, but it's uneven-ness and how it compares to the 1st record).
I count 7 or 8 songs on Hummingbird I like to really enjoy, however this track "Heavy Feet" is not 1 of them. Maybe hearing/seeing it live will change that take.
it's supposed to be streamable here for the next 2 weeks. FTR, i am digging it, but I have not been able to listen to it more than a couple of times yet. It's a different kind of record, but I still enjoy something about nearly every track.
And of course, the hordes of hipster/bloggers comments and reviews are nauseating, between the comparisons to The National and especially the 'West Coast Grizzly Bear" garbage. But that is nothing new. Nor is the lack of anything about close to the p-word or even chamber rock.
Blech, hopefully, a more detailed review will come soon. back issues, other albums., and time have been what has backed me up so far. But I do have it as the 2nd best release of 2013 already. 1/23/13 5:37PM
It's just a stream, I'm luke warm about hearing that. More dreamy and less energetic, but until hearing it with headphones, the jury is still out. full album on youtube deleted

I haven't heard the new single of course. The band made a special appearance at CMJ a few nights ago as well.
Fuck Fuck Fuck..Its stuff like this that comes out so damn quickly and I'm slow. Why this blog, if I were smart, would die. But I'm not smart of course, and I'm also only by the band known to be 1 of their longest time fans outside of their hometown.
But I have got to say, even before hearing the 1st single and album, I hope/almost expect, despite the fact they worked with someone from The National (who I think are hipster drivel), that this record not only will be awesome, but vastly superior to all the other hipster garbage that's come since Gorilla Manor ala Fleet Kittens, Grizzly Cub, Yeasayer, Arcade Fire, Beach House, Sleigh Bells, Mumford and Sons, Tame Impala, Tune Yards, Animal Collective/Panda Bear and related crap, and many others I'm not even remembering right now.
