ALLMR Short Update

Record Store Day Report/Video hopefully coming soon. A few stories with it. Including the wife? not sure per her (soon to be also my) place, video making isn't too conducive given her mother has the TV on all the time.

Midseason List? yes, it is in the works and may arrive close to the May 1st break. But, maybe more likely on Cinco de Mayo per I have that day off (and the 4th actually for the wife's bday).

my Midseason List also will not include the new Bubblemath CD, but there should be an early review when time allows.

Most anticipated right now:

Ours - Spectacular Sight
Anathema - The Optimist
Sikth - The Future in Whose Eyes?
Bent Knee - Land Animal

many others like Diablo Swing Orchestra, plus a lot of others yet to be announced or release dates at least.

My plate is still pretty full tho with Car accident work, medical issues, moving my things into storage, and OT at work.

Hotel of the Laughing Tree - Electric City Rivalry [1B] (2017)

New song, more coming. Good news!

It's been a while...

But I assure you we have something tasty cookin' in the kitchen, and we're very excited to share it with you.

Album announcement coming soon, but in the mean time let us know what you think! Reach us here, or here!

We're stoked to be sharing this with you, and hope you're into it as well.

Love you all,

Bubblemath - Edit Peptide (2016-2017)

Fucking Finally!

They said it would come out, well it finally is (maybe a year or 2 later than they said though).

May 26th.

And on Cuneiform as well which is cool and makes a lot of sense.

15 years in the making, lol. In listening to "The Sensual Con" below, I'm not certain if this is the identical version they shared a couple of years ago. It may be, but I'm almost enjoying it more (and I loved hearing it a couple of years ago).

Anyway, when more of the details come out, I'll of course pass them along.

OT: Health

-Frequent Intermittent Post Nasal Drip (especially right when I wake up in the morning)
-Spinal Back Problems, thought-of per lifting heavy trays and boxes wrong, without a brace
-Incrementally worse Digestive Problems
-Lower Back Inflammation: brought on by: 1. maybe not being in perfect shape. 2. doing things standing up like shopping for vinyl records, washing dishes, and doing laundry
-Kidney Stones: 1st Calcium Oxylate, then Uric Acid. The Uric Acid ones may happen either the rest of my life or until I have surgery of my larger-than-my-left, right kidney.
-Hemmorroids: it seems likely internal and a colonoscopy and possibly surgery may be required
-Migraine Headaches: a 1 time thing that was brought on by Stress 15 years ago. The last 2 days, short, random warm sensations in different parts of my brain.

This is nothing I guess compared to those with crippling conditions, but I just wonder if all this stuff is a sign that my body isn't meant to last as long as I'd expect/hope.

I did have surgery as a baby for Craniosynostosis. No idea if any of these symptoms could be related.

Many of them are genetic, but that only helps to a point.

I suppose I can say stuff like the back inflammation and digestive issues I've been able to get a decent handle on, although I think the hot summer weather will always give me problems with digesting food. Doesn't matter what it is. The kidney stones, at least progress seems to be being made right now, but I will probably only have better confidence if the medication and cherry juice I take every day lasts for a year or more.

And the hemorroids may or may not be going away. But this thing with the headaches yesterday and today almost suggest I am jinxed, when 1 ailment seems to get better, another one comes up.

I want to find optimism, tomorrow is Record Store Day afterall. But this stuff along with moving my stuff into storage and out of my apt in the next 2 months (and still finding a storage space), along with getting my car repaired only add to this full plate of challenges right now for me.

And I thought things would become more chill after the wedding. I honestly would rather be planning a wedding right now than dealing with all this stuff.

The Family Crest - Prelude to War [EP] (2016-2017)

All Songs Considered Link to "Mirror Love" VIDEO

So this is a new EP coming out from San Francisco progressive/chamber band The Family Crest, who I enjoy immensely at times.

I think I posted some stuff previously about their next record, being a big double album, or 2 albums coming, etc..per speaking with some of the members after a show a few years ago at The Cedar.

Well, I imagine some of that is still in the plans, but this is just an EP coming, so I imagine it's just a sample of the oncoming storm that will be in the near future.

New track "Mirror Love" linked above, I will hear and watch later. I would embed the video but, it's unlisted, per likely the wishes of NPR, etc. I suppose in due time, maybe the next bump with more details on this EP, artwork, track list, etc an embed may be in order.

edit: just from that story above

"The War" sounds like The Parallax series from  Between the Buried and Me a bit (but I would put money on I enjoy it more).

Also Mirror Love and a comparison to the late 70's The Bee Gees  in that story.

"Mirror Love" comes from The Family Crest's new EP Prelude To War, coming out April 28. It is the first installment to a larger project by The Family Crest called "The War." There will also be a tour coinciding with the release — this band is a must-see live!

From Facebook

Bent Knee - Land Animal (2016-2017)

New album from Bent Knee Land Animal drops on June 23rd. Preorder link below.

They signed with Inside Out Music, etc (they were on Cuneiform before).

Pretty excited for this one as Say So was in my top 10 from last year. The 1st single/title track video is below and quite good. Quirky, avant-garde, yet melodic and harmonic. Jazzy and percussive. The way they blend these elements together on the new track as well as their previous work is why I'm a fan and enjoying them more with time.

I posted the tour dates with Thank You Scientist below. Too bad there's no Minnesota date, but hopefully on the next leg.

Fjokra - Sick Kids [1B] (2017)

New single/video from Fjokra "Sick Kids."

-Has a bit of an ear-wormy chorus.
-Use of Vocal Distortion is interesting, if almost expected
-A fair amount of rapping, also is not new, except maybe how polished it is

edit: sucker is GROWING on me. Great Track! very memorable.

I heard another new song called "Evening Lights" back on January 1st per BBC Radio London Introducing HERE
which was a fair amount different. But that's kind of the beauty of Fjokra among other things, the band's diversity and combinations of a vast number styles and influences.

Evening Lights I thought had more Big Band and horns in it, etc, which some of I remember well from Thoughtsteps from 2014.

At any case, I enjoy this new track Sick Kids certainly and will be playing it more of course.

Here's more from the description in the video:

Published on Apr 19, 2017
The Official Video for Fjokra's new single 'Sick Kids'! Digitally available on April 21st on all online digital stores!

Fjokra comprise of Annie Bea; vocalist, percussionist, Freddie Draper; bass, Jack Richardson; guitar and Filippo Galli, drummer and Fi; main vocalist, visionary and writer along with garbage lids and lots of sticks and things that would not normally appear on stage with any average band.

The band have gained a reputation for exhibiting uniquely bizarre and eclectic live performances which are reflected in their insanely exhilarating videos. The visual element of Fjokra fully embraces the band’s music, encouraging the outrageous, the unexpected, removing all boundaries of reality, taking the viewer and listener to places that are equally fantastic as they are surreal.

‘Thoughtsteps’ the band’s debut EP was released a year ago, with the video and lead track ‘Get Amongst It’ collecting plaudits on a daily basis, shortlisted for the ‘Most Bizarre’ section of the Berlin Video Awards 2015 and securing a part and sync in the movie ‘Miss You Already’ starring Toni Collette and Drew Barrymore. The EP picked up numerous plays across national radio for both the UK and Ireland including the likes of BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music, Absolute Radio and RTE 2.

The new release ‘Sick Kids’ will be out in early May 2017 - ramping the imagery and musical stakes to a whole new level....

Fjokra are taking on The Black Heart in Camden on April 24th 2017 for the single's official launch show. Details can be found here - http://bit.ly/2mpzxjk

The Year 2004 Albums Calendar and Rankings

2004, a year I historically remember for 3 records: Marillion's Marbles, Fates Warning's FWX and Pain of Salvation's Be.

But in retrospect and the residual discoveries since, this was an incredibly deep year. A lot of technical death metal and progressive college rock. A lot of EPs stood out as well as I think I have 9 in the list below me.

Comparing to 2005 may be unfair, and other years of the 2000's, but I'd say it measures up in a lot of ways, although possibly the depth is more a product of music in the 2000's, the amount of good new music that was coming out.

Blackfield and The Velvet Teen are not far behind..nor is Orphaned Land and some others. I'd say 2004 has become more of a revered year for music for me after now revisiting this.
