Or Part 1, just purely from a numbers standpoint.
And I received an email about the list with following vague numbers
there were nearly 4,000 ballots submitted, with 3,794 unique artists and 11,447 songs
Which looking at the results below, puts this a bit more in perspective. nearly 4,000 ballots and 3,794 artists. Yet only 365 artists ended up in the 893 songs, which is only 9.6%, or 90.4% of the artists (3,429) did not show up. I.e. on average less then 1 out of every 10 artists voted for, lol.
11,447 songs voted for, and 893 make it obviously. Again only 7.4%. Obviously not everyone will vote for the same songs, etc, but 10,554 songs were voted for didn't make it 92.6%.
But as some of the other stats below show, nearly 76% of the songs that made the 893, were among the 150 artists that had more than 1 song. In other words, 3/4 of the songs that made it were from the same artists, whereas only 1/4 were artists which only got 1 song in the 893. It's even more staggering if you take the percentage that were The Beatles, Prince, Bowie, Zeppelin and few others, etc.
Why they could have made a rule that you couldn't vote for more than 1 song from the same artist (like I followed on my ballot). But in thinking about that, I suppose then the results would have ended up like the 893 Artists list from 2017 (although in some ways they still did).
I just think many of those close to 4,000 ballots had people including 2 or 3 or 4 Bowie or The Cure songs, which to me speaks to the limitations of many of the listeners/voters narrow taste.
Anyway, instead of going into the whole REACT-TO with my list of 500+ songs or whatever, I will try and work on that in the coming days/weeks. And even just artists who didn't show up, lol. 893 potential, but only 365 ended up. At least 100-200 more had some of these artists not had so many more than just 1 (Lizzo?..really? Jason Isbell?..yeah all of those songs belong in there ahead of The Monkees or Yes, lol).
But yeah, a Part 2 and/or Part 3 should come in the form of MY ESSENTIAL or just FAVORITE SONGS list.
Also worth adding how Shine On, 2112, Abbey Road Medley, etc were of course CUTOFF. I.e. only an excerpt was played, yet the votes I know were for the entire piece/suite/song. But they need to babble on and beg for money and can't allow 1 single voted song take more than 5 or 6 minutes. It's just eye-rolling as fuck and another reason I don't listen to their station 99% of the time I turn on the radio (WDGY is sohh much better anyway).
I will say, I wish I could have heard Jungleland on the air and certainly expect that track to be in MY list (okay, a small spoiler among that large number of songs).
